Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Jimenez sent down to Toledo after going 1-2-3 in the 8th. Cuevas brought up. Sánchez still on the team.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Cuevas was brought in as another long reliever, since Sanchez was burned for a couple days. So we used him in the 9th, and we almost had a disaster.

This bullpen will kill this season. No two ways about it.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Sanchez was better today overall but the one gopher ball the threw really hurt us. We have nobody at this point. Ryan is worse than pretty much anyone. it's a total disaster and Ausmus will get the blame.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Tigers are tied for the division lead despite being -12 in run differential. This doesn't strike me as sustainable.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

No, it's not.

We called up a long reliever after Thursday's game to spell Sanchez. So what do we do? Use him in the 9th on Friday with a 7-1 lead. Great idea, because that's exactly how you want to use your long man in the pen. He makes such a mess that K-Rod has to come in and nail it down, giving up a grand slam in the process.

Now Verlander gets shelled today, and we have to trot out Sanchez again in the 5th. Oh, and this guy we brought up, the long reliever that we used in the 9th inning? He was throwing a whopping 88-89 on Friday night.

I understood why we used him that way and I don't have a problem with it. what I do have issues with is why did management sit on their hands all winter when they knew the bull pen would be so bad. if anything it's worse than last year. I mean even Pelfry might have been better than this mess, even with Jimenez. We have a lot of positives and improvements, but the bull pen can undo it in 1 inning.

4-1 final

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

K-Rod is done. Grooving 88 mph fastballs and walking people. Can't wait to see who the next aging arm is signed to be the closer next.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

We have two decent arms in the pen: the Wilsons. If Brad picks up the phone for anyone else, he might as well be ordering carry-out.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

All right. The quicker we get out of this god****ed stadium the better off we'll be.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Verlander leaves with 0 out in the 6th after walking half the ballpark in the 6th, plus a 2-run single.

We're boned here, but Ausmus didn't have a choice.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Same ****. Different day. Only the names change.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

And now Miggy's out of the game. I think we're done here for the night.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Yep... your bullpen is still my Tiger. ;)

If I'd have realized these two teams were playing (before turning it on during the Leafs OT intermission), and have seen the pitching match up, I'd have automatically put one in the loss column for the Twins. I know he's not the same guy he was a few years ago, but Verlander is generally going to Verlander more often than not.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Miggy to the 10-day DL (yes, that's a thing this year).

Verlander was Verlander last night.....until the 6th inning, when everything went straight to hell on a rocket sled.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

He could very well be, although they didn't hit him that hard last night. His control just went AWOL.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

JaCoby Jones to the DL after getting one in the chops today. Jim Adduci called up from Toledo.

I'm not really sure just who Jim Adduci is.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

7-1 lead in the 3rd inning.

Let's see how the pitching staff blows this one.
