J.D.!!

3-2 Nats, top 9

That might be the end of Max right there.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Miggy is #19.

How did Bill Gullickson strike out 18 in a game?!?!? I mean, I know he won 20 for us one year, but he didn't exactly blow people away.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Upton is #20. Go figure.

There have been 5 20-strikeout games. The Tigers have been victimized in two of those four games.

Roger Clemens, Scherzer, anyone else victimize us?

Nope. Just those two.

You couldn't hit Castellanos for McCann in that situation. McCann was the last catcher for the Tigers in the game. Martinez had been taken out for Romine as a pinch-runner. Saltamacchia had pinch-hit for Zimmerman earlier. So who is going to catch in the bottom of the 9th?

And Clemens got us twice? 1986 and 1996?

No. Just once. IIRC, I think his first 20 K game was against Seattle. Tonight was #2.

Also, Nolan Ryan had a 19 K game against us, and struck out 17 more Tigers in one of his no-hitters in 1973. That was the Norm Cash Table Leg game.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Upton is indeed in CF. Steven Moya has been recalled and he's in LF tonight. Blaine Hardy was sent to Toledo. Apparently we don't need 18 lefties in the pen.

SALTALAMACCHIA!!

2-0, top 4

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Good grief. Pelfrey finally gives us a decent outing and now the bullpen goes to ****.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Ausmus might as well be ordering Chinese food when he calls down to the bullpen.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

We only gave up 5 there. Not so bad, I suppose. *shrug*

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

It amazes me that the bullpen continues to be such a problem year after year.
