Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

I don't think our manager knows what he's doing.

You can make a good case.

3 errors now. We have a defensive coordinator. I have no idea why, unless we're having Miggy blitz from 3rd base. I suggest we take that defensive coordinator and drop him off the bridge out there behind center field.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Just have everyone thrown out for arguing balls and strikes. Forfeit and go to bed.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Okay. Just because we called up 3 relievers today, that doesn't mean we need to use them all up by the 6th inning.

IKE DAVIS!!

10-4 Pirates, bottom 6.

**** it. The homer light is coming out.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Cleveland fans are mocking us. KC fans are serenading us. We'll go right from this to the Lions and the Wings.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

If that's the case, I need to order more scotch.

Cleveland shouldn't be mocking anyone. That's like a homeless guy calling someone else a bum. They haven't won anything in 50 years.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Oakland is in KC for four this week. Hopefully they can do some damage while we try to save this sinking ship.

SNIDER!!

11-6 Pirates, bottom 8.

Well, you know how the haters are.

I have a bet with some Cleveland fan on twitter (he happens to be a fair weather Michigan fan too) that Detroit will win a professional championship before Cleveland does. This, after finally responding to incessant chatter about how he hates Detroit fans. He thinks the Cavs are the NBA darlings now and will be anointed next season. (I reminded him about how the same was said about the Indians in the 1990's and the Browns in the 80's.)

I guess he didn't like the facts I was presenting... such as... living through 9 professional championships in Detroit- '68- 2008. (4 Wings, 2 Tigers, 3 Pistons.) Toss in the Shock and Michigan Panthers if you want too. And, as polluted as it has ever been, the Detroit River has never caught on fire, either.

If I liked scotch, I'd tell you to pass the bottle.

RIP First Place: March 31, 2014 to August 11, 2014

Well, we were out of first place for a couple of days when KC came into town a few weeks ago, too.

Verlander is scheduled for an MRI today. I suspect that his shoulder has been an issue for a while, but he hasn't said anything.

Were we? I don't remember that.

We're quickly becoming the Red Wings. Much like people started to call them the Detroit Griffins, it's getting to the point where we'll be putting out the Detroit Mud Hens on the field.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Buck Farmer will be making the start Wednesday. 2013 5th round pick out of Georgia Tech.

Evidently in the flurry of transactions yesterday I missed that we released Casey Crosby.

Help us, Dave Dombrowski. You're our only hope.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Looking ahead, I wonder if there is any thought at all about turning Verlander in to a closer. They are stuck with the contract and his arm doesn't have what it takes to be a starter for that length of time. If it was to work they would solidfy a position that has been a horror show for several years now. Thoughts?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

If they played a day game today they would have got it in fine. No rain downtown since 11 am. Hope tonight stays dry.

If the injury issues continue, then yes I could see that happening, but no need to go the John Smoltz route just yet. Especially because I don't think any GM wants to see the closer getting paid that type of money.
