Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

And if Fielder doesn't get off his ballbag and produce, none of this is going to matter.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Prince Fielder this postseason: 8-33, 0 HR, 0 RBI. .242 AVG, .273 SLG.

Cecil Fielder could have put up similar numbers.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Where to start tonight. Winning run on wild pitch. Unearned run before that. Horrible base running. Untimely DP's and a useless blob playing first base. Sure I missed something. Need Scherzer and Verlander to be lights out in that $hithole.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Yeah. You forgot a 3rd base coach that got a turtle thrown out at the plate by 40 feet. Sending Miggy home was a brilliant idea.

Yeah, you did. As in 460....foot home run that is....not sure that one's come down even now....

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I'm glad I was working a hockey game and didn't see that.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I'm convinced after watching this glaring lack of fundamentals and clutch hitting, the only way the Tigers win this series is if Verlander and Scherzer pitch exactly as they did their first 2 outings. Of course they each gave up 1 run with doulble digit K's and won neither game. I do like the lineup changes and hope that they tweek a little more this weekend as follows:

Hunter RF
Dirks LF
Cabrera DH
Martinez C
Peralta 3B or SS
Useless 1B
Jackson CF
Infante 2B
Iglesias SS or 3b

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Judging from the tenor of this thread, I'm totally expecting a Game Seven.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Martinez is having issues with that knee again. He's not even running right. He can't catch, unless there's an emergency and Lance Parrish, Bill Freehan and Matt Nokes are all crippled. If Avila can't go, it's Brayan Pena and go hide under the bed.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I don't know what to think anymore.
Welcome to our world. I have no earthly idea how we're up 3-2 in a series where the Red Sox are being thoroughly outpitched.

* Sometimes also useless and dazed and confused at the plate and struck out around 20% of the time this year.

Why not Infante batting #2? And, Pena had a nice hit last night, how about him in the 2 slot? Because, Martinez is most likely not going to be catching. And, I highly doubt that Leyland is going to move Prince.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Would be Ok with that. Actually wanted Infante to lead off when Jackson was slumping. As far as Vmart, his knees have been bad for a while. He caught several games in NL ballparks as late as the end of August. Now if he is physically unable since then, I get it. Don't know why he wouldn't move Prince when he has moved others. Get him out of cleanup just like getting Jackson out of leadoff. Maybe it clears his head.

He aggravated his knee in this series. Game 3, I think.

With the arms Detroit has going in Games 6 & 7, if I was them, I'd be optimistic of playing next Wednesday.

Not optimistic. winning on the road and at fenway is very difficult.

Fielder is not hitting home runs, but he is hitting. I'm not down on him like some are. I would put the base-running mistakes squarely on Cabrera.

Dirks not only playing, but up in the order? you have to be smoking something.!

In comparison to the other first baseman in the ALCS (Napoli) Prince is sucking wind.

Napoli: BA .375 OBP .412 SLG .875 OPS 1.287
Prince: BA .211 OBP .286 SLG .263 OPS .549 - he has only one extra base hit, a 2B in the game two loss, zero (0) RBIs

I'm not down on Prince, but he looks lost at the plate lately, and kind of nonchalant. If the Tigers are going to have a chance of winning tonight, he's going to have to pick up the slack like his teammate Victor Martinez has been doing.

VMart: BA .389 OBP .450 SLG .500 OPS .950

Don't know if that's possible for Prince--it looks as though he does not have a very good postseason track record.

Someone (or multiple someones), aside from VMart, is going to have to step it up tonight and not put the burden entirely on Max to pitch another gem.

Not that optimistic either.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Mr. McCarver, the best thing the Tigers would like to see out of Fielder is NOT a single to left. It would be a ~410 foot blast to right field, assmunch.
