Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Well, he's 23 and hasn't picked up a bat on a regular basis since high school. That was 5 years ago. Remember, there's also a DH throughout the minors, too. He's not accustomed to swinging a bat, and AL teams in general don't like having their pitchers take a swing.

Santiago just ****ed up there. Is there a reason we're not walking Votto?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

So....we're walking Bruce, but we're lobbing grapefruit to Votto. Uh-huh.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

We've got a short bench, Benoit unavailable, and Villareal is not likely to go. And we're pinch-hitting for Porcello in the 6th.

That means we need 12 outs from a depleted bullpen, and we're going to have to burn at least one more pinch-hitter from an already thin bench. Great.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Imagine had our esteemed hitting coach spotted the hole in Boesch's swing sometime before June...

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Delmon clubs one into the seats in left-center.

5-4 Tigers, top 8.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

I'm waiting for Marlboro Jimmy to bring in Aurelio Lopez. That's just about the only arm we've got left short of Valverde.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Coke to pitch to Votto.

Everybody get in the bunker.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Coke to pitch to Votto.

Everybody get in the bunker.

Beat me to it.

EDIT: wth? He can do that to one of the best hitters in the NL but not the Cleveland Indians, or any AL team for that matter?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Great googly-moogly. He struck Votto out.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Okay, sometime this weekend we've got to see what happens when Cabrera gets a hold of Chapman's heater.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Did Matt Young move in with Ryan Raburn before he got called up to Detroit?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

So...How does this one turn into a loss?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

A safety squeeze to end it. That's new.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Peralta on paternity leave. Some Perez dude from Lakeland being called up because he's on the 40-man and they don't want to waive anyone.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Hernan Perez. A 21-year old prospect in high-A ball, but a prospect nonetheless.

More in a minute.

EDIT: Okay. Hernan Perez has played mostly 2B this season after being a shortstop for the most part in the minors. Doesn't appear to have much of a bat, as he hasn't hit .270 in a season yet. Not much OBP, either, and he's a bit of a windmill.

See for yourself. Meet Hernan Perez

In Lynn Henning's weekly slurping of our farm system, Toby Harrah (minor league roving hitting instructor) said this:

Hernan Perez, second base, Lakeland: "I would look at him as maybe a year and-a-half to two years from playing every day in the big leagues. He can do a little bit of everything and would be playing shortstop if it weren't for (Dixon) Machado. Has a little problem with balls on the outside of the plate."

I would expect to see Santiago and Worth deal with the middle infield the remainder of the weekend.

So he'll be pinch hitting with two outs and the go ahead run in scoring position?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Probably. Or Leyland will bring him out of the bullpen as the 4th pitcher to appear in the 8th inning of a 9-4 game.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 3 - The Alan Trammell version

Oh. Remember Cale Iorg? He's 26 and after being in Toledo last year (and hitting .208), he's back in high-A Lakeland.
