3-1 final.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

We scored 7 in the first yesterday. Texas might be about to pay us back here in the 2nd today. Already 3-0.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

In what has to be irony, the 2018 Tigers AAAA squad hit 4 home runs off of Justin Verlander today.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

41-57 at the break. Not good at all, but better than I thought they'd be.

I'd do mid-season grades like I normally do, but I think at this point I'll pass, as it would be too **** depressing. Castellanos, Jimenez and Gardenhire would get A's, but not a whole lot else would be honor roll level, and too many guys would have to be held back a grade or two.

Not sure you can find a much weirder stat line. 6 IP, 12 K's, 0 BB. Stop there and it's domination. 6 hits for a WHIP of 1. Also dominant, so why'd he get taken out? 6 runs, 5 earned. Oh...

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

And look who hit the bombs off of him: Hicks (makes sense), Candelario (makes sense), Goodrum (okaaaaayyyy).....and Adduci (huh?).

4 RBI night. The guy's a friggin banjo hitter and Thornburg serves up a cookie.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

Don't worry. We're not getting any hits tomorrow.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

42-58 at the 100 game mark. That's a 68-win pace.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

Somehow a 1-0 game took three and a half hours.
Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy,

■ Red Sox vice president of pitching analysis Brian Bannister inadvertently explained what is killing baseball when he told the Globe’s Alex Speier, “Essentially, baseball has become a game full of data scientists. We’re finding ways to get better at what we do, and to provide the players with better information and better recommendations on everything we do on a daily basis . . . The biggest change in the game is the mind-set of ‘Get a hitter out in three pitches or less.’ Efficiency was the most prized thing in baseball. Now the whole art of pitching is the science of the swing and miss . . . When we control all the variables with a ball not being put into play, as opposed to a ball being put into play and all the chaos that causes, it’s worth our time.’’

Swell. Unfortunately for viewers, the “chaos” Bannister abhors is actually what made the game entertaining in the first place. Remember great defensive plays and triples in the gap? Bannister’s smart and winning philosophy is a classic explanation of how analytics is sucking the life out of the national pastime.

Case in point: Friday night’s 1-0 Sox win over the Tigers. It took 3 hours and 31 minutes to play a 1-0 game! Thanks to the stellar/winning philosophy of keeping the ball out of play we got 10 pitchers and 317 pitches in a game with one run and one extra-base hit. Sox reliever Matt Barnes needed 23 pitches for a shutout eighth and Craig Kimbrel threw 23 for his shutout ninth. It is unwatchable. Nothing happens.

5-4 final. We scored 3 in the top of the 9th to win it.

VICTOR!!!!

5-3 Royals, top 7.

First bomb in 2 months for Martinez.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

Jimenez puts us in a 4-3 hole in the 8th. Stumpf comes in to face a righty (a cock-up there on Gardy's fault), and immediately gives up a 3-run bomb.

Two pitchers on this roster do not belong on a major league roster: Drew VerHagen and Daniel Stumpf.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

8-3 Tribe final. Jimenez got charged with 3 runs, and Alcantara gave up a bomb in the 9th.

I can live with Jimenez and Alcantara get shellacked once in a while. They're kids. That's the cost of a rebuild. We knew nights like that were coming. Fine. But Daniel Stumpf is NOT a major league pitcher at this point. He should be in Toledo. Drew VerHagen should not be on a MLB roster. He was DFA'd earlier this season and no one claimed him. He's 27. He's not a prospect. I've got more patience with Stumpf than I do with VerHagen. Stumpf can get better. This is what VerHagen is going to be.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 10: The Tommy Bridges edition

Leonys Martin to the Tribe for SS prospect Willi Castro.

I have no idea who Willi Castro is.

EDIT: 21 year old in AA. .653 OPS. Okay, fine, I guess.

Oh, and Mike Gerber has been called up to replace Martin.
