Detroit Tigers, 2009, Part III: How long does it take for Leyland to screw this up?

Re: Detroit Tigers, 2009, Part III: How long does it take for Leyland to screw this up?

I think you have to go with Porcello on Tuesday. He's been our 2nd best pitcher this month, and Tuesday's game at Minnesota is probably equally tough when compared to the alternative, which is game 1 at Yankee Stadium.

Tue: Porcello

Wed/Thu: Jackson
Fri: Verlander

Sun: Porcello
Mon: Jackson if gm 1 is Wed / Yakaty Sax if gm 1 is Thu

Wed: Verlander

Are fans hanging around one my favorite ballparks to watch the end of the Twins game?

Well, there will be at least a couple Tiger fans at the Dome on Tuesday. Let's hope it's enough to make a difference and that it's the last baseball game ever played there, rather than the second-to-last.

I'd like to see Porcello get the start.

Porcello will get the start against Scott Baker.

Tigers will win in a blowout.

To blatantly steal from Dirty:

Billy, what's 2+2?

Put them out of their misery. They couldn't win one more game this season (with the last seven at home)? Now a trip to the Metro-terror dome? Will Minnesota stop haunting Detroit/Michigan EVER? :D

At first I thought Billy forgot the ";) " then I realized that he's just not very smart.

Oh, boy, the story gets better. Apparently Cabrera came home at 6 am, loaded like a freight train, and woke his kids up by yapping on his cell. He and his wife got into it and fought over the cell phone. 911 got called, Cabrera ended up in a squad car, blew a .26, and came back home.

No wonder he slumped this weekend. He was on a bender and had a hangover at the same time.

Sounds like that huge contract was worth it.

If he's going to hit .330 with 30-35 homers and 100+ RBI and get on base 40% of the time, then yes, I have no reservations about his contract. Mickey Mantle made a career out of doing things just like this.

As long as he stays out of jail, then, yes it is a good contract, but it looks like he's kinda on a slippery slope that may not end well.

Well, we'll see. It's the first blip on the radar. I don't blame the front office one bit for locking him up long term, especially when he was only 25 at the time he signed the deal, had the resume he had, and still had presumably his best years ahead of him.

Yup. But it would have been better to celebrate the division title AFTER WINNING IT.

Apparently there's more to this story, and none of it is good.

I'm sure there is. Hopefully Kwame isn't involved, there aren't any exotic dancers that mysteriously disappear, and Roy Hobbs doesn't put on a Twins uniform on Tuesday.

In all seriousness, I hope that the Tigers straighten this out. Cabrera may be one of the few bright spots for the next couple of years.

Well, apparently Cabrera's wife threw him out of the house and Dombrowski had to go get him at 7:30 that morning. There was also a report of a domestic assault at the hotel where he was getting moellered, drinking with some White Sox. There's an awful lot of smoke for there not to be another fire here.

I hope this doesn't Goose Looney the team for the year.
