Detroit Lions 2015: Suh? Ngata For You!

Re: Detroit Lions 2015: Suh? Ngata For You!

Now Megatron might be contemplating retirement. Lovely.

He's on the wrong side of 30, he's a known injury risk, he's been beaten pillar to post every season because that's the only way to defend him, he has a number in his savings account only achievable via use of a Game Genie, his team is starting over with an unknown new GM and the coach is a question mark, and a controversial movie that shows the price of a concussion in the NFL in grisly detail just hit theatres. I'd be out the door while I can still count to potato as well.

I'll be in the fetal position in the corner.

Would suck for the Lions in the short-term, but it may be the best decision for him personally, for the reasons Twitch stated above.

Reading between the lines, I think he's already out the door. And I don't blame him.

Re: Detroit Lions 2015: Suh? Ngata For You!

I think this one is a lot bigger than the Lions. There's more at play here.

If he wants to be moved, then the Lions need to accommodate him. He's past his prime. This is where the Branch Rickey axiom kicks in: I'd rather trade a guy a year too early than a year too late.

I think his body is breaking down. He doesn't practice a lot during the season and he gets abused because it's the only way to cover him. When you already have $100 million, why not enjoy it with your family

I'm really surprised more players don't do this. A couple Niners did it at a very young age this past year, and I think we'll see more of that in the future. Play 3-5 years, then boomgone. Get paid, secure yourself a future, then do other stuff and stay healthy long-term.

Quinn has fired a chunk of the scouting and Strength and conditioning staffs...finally replacing guys who were here pre-2008.

Makes sense. Quinn made his bones scouting for New England by scouting. Would be a pretty good idea for him to go through and revamp the scouting department and telling Caudwell that he's on a short leash next year.

I'm thinking for next year, it's playoffs or bust for Caldwell. Now will simply making the playoffs be enough to keep him, or will we have to actually advance?
