Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

The best front line in college hockey goes against one of the best defenses in the nation in UND. Should be a great matchup. I'll be predicting DU to get the better of UND in the WCHA pick em thread, but this should be fun. I wonder if the series is televised in Wisconsin.

The UND hockey schedule says both games will be on Fox College Sports Central and the schedule says the NHL channel for Friday's game too. I know you can get both these channels on Direct TV channels (617 or 623) and 215 for the NHL channel.

Also, I think it's on the Fox Sports Rocky Mountain channel on Friday too.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Here we go for another memorable weekend in Grand Forks, site of ice walks, dasher dances, angry TV reporters and the ever-increasing fan hatred. Oh, and a 60+ year hockey rivalry between two of the greatest programs in the history of the sport.

On paper, Denver's been the better team so far, but the Sioux are playing at home, and that makes for a very interesting and crucial series for both teams.

What say you, fans?

So I wonder if the TV reporter shows up, didn't she say she'd never go to UND ever again.

FSN Rocky Mountain isn't televising the games so no local Denver TV crew will be up there. No Alana for the hostile and abusives this year.:D

These games are going to be viewable on both TV and the web. FSSN (Fighting Sioux Sport Network) will be originating the broadcasts which are being picked up by mutiple broadcasters.

Friday Night - 7:30 PM CT
TV
FSSN
FCS Central
NHL Network

Webcast - pay
Pioneer Vision at www.denverpioneers.com

Saturday Night - 7:00 PM CT
TV
FSSN
FCS Central

Webcast - pay
Pioneer Vision at www.denverpioneers.com

I hope they show the lawnmower throwing contest between the 2nd and 3rd periods Friday night :D :p ;)

Good thing. Grand Forks has enough trouble with flooding, they don't need Alana's tears adding to the problem.

Now that Dirty has that new product out I won't be able to see "Boy George" come out onto the ice and give a rousing rendition of ...

Well, hoping for the best I still would like to see a healthy dose of this applied to both the visitor's bench and the dasher in front of the visitor's box at REA just in case "Boy George" decides to express himself again.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

I'll be good.

You're not predicting a Sioux sweep? What's up with that?
I was told by a fan of the Huskies that UND has no chance and is going
to get blown out of the water this weekend.

Could very well happen.

That's too bad Rizzo won't be there. The TV eye candy is always nice.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Any news on Genoway or is he still out with the recurring headaches and blurred vision? A few weeks ago many of you thought he would be done for the season.

How about any other injuries as I know UND has had a few?

Genoway is still out with no timetable set for his possible return.

Hextall remains out with a "lower leg" injury. On January 6 they expected him out 4-6 weeks. Corban Knight is also out with an ankle sprain. On January 10 he was expected to be out 4-6 weeks, minimum. No word from the team as to how close either is to returning. UND has a bye after the DU series, so I would guess the staff is hoping Hextall and Knight can return for the SCSU series.

Thanks, from what I know DU will have all hands on deck. Just like every other team players have assorted bumps and bruises but I don't think anyone would not be available. It will be interesting to see of Gwoz takes 2 d-men again as the 21st and 22nd players like last weekend.

Genoway I would be very surprised if he's back at all this season. I'm expecting to see him next year. I'm not sure about Hextall, but I heard somewhere the Corban said on the radio during the Cornell series that he might be able to play this weekend. I'm not sure. I might just be going crazy. Hextall might be able to go this weekend since he was injured earlier and is at that 4 week mark of his injury. I'm not his doctor though. I'm sure we'll know more at media day on Wednesday.

To the DU boys - pack warm clothes and snow boots. For both the chilly reception, and the current blizzardy conditions in NoDak.:)

Good tip. Also a good idea to stop in to see Mr. Goodwrench for a winterization before coming up. Last time they brought their Chevy to town in the middle of winter they were leaking anti-freeze and oil as they limped home down I-29. :D

The Chevy got tuned up on Saturday last year to take a vital WCHA point after running rough on Friday night. Went home still in 1st place.:D

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – After getting thrashed 8-3 last night, the No. 4 Denver Pioneers responded with a strong effort to earn a 2-2 overtime tie tonight against No. 15 North Dakota before 11,856 frenzied fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Denver (15-7-3, 11-5-2 WCHA) earns one league point and remains first in the WCHA with 24 points, while North Dakota remains second with 23 points.

The Pioneers outshot North Dakota 40-25 and received a superb goaltending effort from Marc Cheverie (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia), who allowed a career-high seven goals last night. Cheverie stopped 23 shots tonight and led DU’s penalty-kill unit to a perfect 4-for-4 effort.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Genoway = more than likely out for the season
Hextall = timetable says he could come back in the next few weeks...if not this weekend, then hopefully for SCSU after the bye week
Knight = he might play this weekend, he was interviewed during the Cornell series and said as much

As sfo19 mentioned, we'll know more on Wed.

Thank you, sir. Beat those Pioneers and give us a better shot at the McNaughton!

LOL. True, don't need her tears! She needs to toughen up! I agree, I think Split too.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

I think we're going to see an attempt at some tight, pretty balanced officiating this weekend, as I don't think the league wants any ref to call 5 straight power plays for either team, and in a rivalry situation - that's a sure way to lose control of the game, and that's exactly what happened last year.

I think the games will be close, low-scoring games.

Re: Denver at North Dakota: Big Rivalry, Big Weekend

Hard to get excited playing one of these Second Tier - 6th place WCHA Programs. Guess we'll just have to send our team up there since it a mandatory league series.

Doubt Gwoz will even pack a pair of his custom made ice loafers for this series.

DU Sweeps in a Cakewalk. No need to send Boone up to Grand Forks this weekend. He only travels to Rivalry Series'.

Sad. I was really looking forward to the students throwing him on the ice after UND scored their first goal on Friday. :( Can we at least get the Jelly Donut Bird?
