Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Bump!! OK guys, two more days and we face off. What does your injury report look like?, how about line ups? I remember two studs on your team from last time we played they were giving us fits, I can't remember their names. They were the two top scorers for the Mavs last time we played. Who might they be and are they still on fire?

Just trying to revive the thread!!

A lot has changed since the series in Denver. The team is much more consistent. I wouldn't expect to see 7-1 scores in this series. Not many guys really stand out as far as scoring. Dorr has been pretty good lately. jokinen has been streaky when it comes to scoring. Defense is much more consistent and d-men have lead the team in scoring for much of the year with Youds and Davis leading the way.

Jokinen is the name I remember, Davis the other, I think.

DU Game Notes for this series.

THIS WEEKEND'S STORYLINES

Drew Shore and Jason Zucker return to the DU lineup after helping Team USA capture the bronze medal at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The Pioneers are 7-0-1 in their last eight games against Minnesota State.

DU is unbeaten at 2-0-2 in its last four games.

Forwards Beau Bennett (knee) and Chris Knowlton (ankle) are doubtful this weekend.

MSU Game Notes

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Tyler Elbrecht is questionable for MSU with an injury. That's a pretty big loss if he can't play effectively this weekend since MSU is pretty thin on D.

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

For DU, the defense played well in the NMU series, keeping the shot totals down and the scoring chances sporadic. If the Pios keep that up, they have a good chance to well at MSUM. If they give up 30-40 shots a night, they'll do well to split.

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

From Mike Chamber's blog in the Denver Post. Beau Bennett is traveling with the team and may play this weekend. Chris Knowlton is not making the trip. Jon Cook and Joey Brehm are traveling with the team and both will play forward if Bennett can't play. Sam Brittain will play goal on Friday and Adam Murray on Saturday.

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Mavs are playing good hockey right now. They won 8 of last 10. Won the holiday tournament in Chicago with Notre Dame, Boston, and Brown. Hopefully got some goals in them and get at least a split this weekend.

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Well, that was a heartbreaker. A very exciting, but very chippy game. Lots of up and down the ice, lots of after-the-whistle extra-curriculars.

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Denver was rusty from the bye week, and Sam had his second subpar outing in a row. But the Pios showed some character to gain the road point late against an MSUM team that probably deserved to win.

I think the Pioneers will be sharper on Sat. now that they have their legs back.

Re: Denver at Mankato 1/14-15

Thank you Jutting. Both nights you blew leads by running the same couple of lines out there over and over in the third period until they looked like they were skating in a swamp. I'm just about done with Maverick hockey until the university shows they give a **** about a coach who has a losing record for eleven years.

They certainly didn't have it for 60 minutes. Friday was a tough finish to watch. Sat was brutal. Denver is a good team but giving up a 3-0 lead, 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining. How many times did they retreat behind the net to "set up" only to get it to the blueline and have it skated back in?

It is obvious that josh nelson doesn't have the ability or the confidence to be leading a breakout. Great first 40 minutes. Sad outcome. Rylan definitely didn't show the leadership needed when he got 2 cheap penalties.
