Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

Re: Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

Second year in a row. UAH needs to find a new manufacturer.

That is pretty amateur!!! At the same time, if it has happened two years in a row.... either get your order in earlier (UAH's own fault) or fire your supplier!!

Re: Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

Attendance looked awful low for a home opener against a CCHA foe....... thoughts on reasons for that???

Re: Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

Any chance that might impact Ferris/CCHA opinion on things for the future???

Ask a Magic 8-Ball, it knows as much as any of us at this point.

But it's far more likely that it's WAY to early to even speculate on things.

Thursday night game + Students on Fall Break

I'm sure there were more excuses, but honestly? I noted a lot of season ticket holders that I normally recognize weren't around. Some obviously moved to new locations that I didn't get around to due to the changes in the arena, but even so, I still felt we were missing quite a few stalwarts.

Pretty much. The BTHC stuff is the great unknown.

As for the jerseys: UAH had their jerseys last year in Notre Dame. From talking to the coaches and equipment manager about it, they cut it close in Danton's first year, but this is the only time they've been truly late. I know from talking to Holeman that he would have gotten them distributed if they'd arrived at 5pm. :)

The B2 guys bailed on us again. We are trying to get a ustream.tv feed up during this intermission.

Re: Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

We had a blast tonight with the Chargers 4-2 win over Ferris. A split, we'll take it. Coach got his first win, as did our Goalie Saunders. I was very impressed by some team cohesiveness and work ethic, particularly Roy who burned FSU for a pair.

We also got to introduce my brother-in-law to hockey tonight, he'd never seen a game and he's talking about coming back again since it was the best sporting event he'd ever seen.

Also good to get a chance to talk to some of the family and supporters from around the country, in this case from Ferris State. Good luck to them for the rest of the season, and my only advice... learn not to let little things (cough*22*cough) get under your skin.

That's most likely because the VBC network (part of the city's network) kept going up and down all night!!! I kept resetting
the network printer down in the Training Room so Jamie, up in the press box, could print the stats out and he kept losing it. Most of the time he couldn't even ping it with a static IP. Bummer!!!

PS - I'll post some pics of tonights game sometime tomorrow.

Re: Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

Yeah, Doug, I kept a solid connection most of the time, but ... okay, whatever B2. I'm beginning to think that ustream is going to be the way to go in the future. I'm just sad that my stellar p-b-p work was for naught. [I'm kidding, but I didn't suck, and I expected to SUCK.]

I'm happy with the win. The boys really created space offensively, especially in the first and third. Roy had a good night offensively but was very average otherwise. Saunders was solid between the pipes. And yeah, Seabass was really a burr in the Bulldogs' saddle, but he's got room to improve there, too.

I saw a lot to like, but there's still a lot of room for improvement.

Also, because folks saw it, yes, Burkholder got hurt late in the game. I don't think that the severity of the injury is known just yet. I hope that Ryan is back to health soon, but knowing him, he will lead even if he can't play.

Doubling our shot total was a definite improvement, and reducing FSU's down by about 16% was good too. I'd like to see the boys get to the point of having shot parody (or preferably superiority), but not getting blown out of the water in that department (38-12 on Thursday versus 32-24 on Friday) is a step towards that.

As I said before I'm still really impressed so far with our goalie not cracking under pressure, we're asking a lot of a freshman given the loss of experience at all positions. Some rebound control is needed, but that comes with time and practice. As for Bastian, yeah we watched him chirp at the dogs all night long. He needs to figure out how to do that without chewing on some of the ice, which they got him for a couple of times (probably could have earned themselves a few more box minutes if the refs had been calling the game tighter). Got to hand it to him, the kid is resilient and seems to relish the role. Some days you just need an agitator.

Passing looked a lot better Friday than Thursday, and definitely more lanes opening up. Still gave up some pucks on bad turn overs, but that's the learning curve. For the most part FSU couldn't capitalize on it, which was frequently a testament to Burkholder and Baxter. One distinct note is that some of the stick handling, particularly with the poke checks, seems improved over last year. Nothing to write home about yet, but it definitely looked better than I recall.

We wondered about Burkholder, was it the mess along the boards or something else that actually did it? He seemed kind of ginger picking himself up after that.

Re: Declaring Our Independence: UAH 2010-11, Part the First

It was something else, and it looked like he hit a guy wrong. Ryan told me today that he feels a lot better than he expected to feel this morning. I'm curious how he'll feel Monday morning at practice. You can bet that Douglas and I will be talking to him.

Thanks for the photos Doug. Wasn't able to find any audio or video feeds for the two games vs. Ferris State.

The B2 feeds died on us, and no one at UAH is happy about that. We're going to work with the city to make sure that the network works properly for the Providence series.

You're welcome.
It was my understanding that Ferris Radio was broadcasting the games but I didn't know exactly where the link was (possibly from the FSU website). Of course that doesn't help now...

Dom Henning [I think he's also the guy behind @FerrisHockey] said in the Ferris thread that their local station had buggered the Internet feed on Thursday and didn't join until right after the NA on Friday. That's better than we can say for B2.

I would actually like it if we could find some service for after-the-fact Web video with the same stuff that goes out on the B2 feed. As it's just the coaches' camera + local audio, seems like we could capture it all and put it up on Amazon S3, then find a way to stream it in.
