DC Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...

Re: DC Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...

It's not a false equivalency if a female senator were to harass a man or grope him when it's not welcome. They're the same thing. Just because it doesn't happen as often doesn't mean it's any less of an issue for the person being harassed or groped.

There is a large portion of the population that feels women cant do those things. Hell a large portion thinks it is aok for women to rape male students. They are the same thing but not thought of the same way...

Put it this way, we hear about men in college who have had to deal with women recanting consent after the fact. Those students tend to get punished. Do you think if a male student recanted consent after the fact the woman would be punished? Would the punishments be equal?

Note: I am not saying they should be or anything just saying they may be the same but they arent equal.

That's ok with me. I think he's already a Eunic though so I don't see a grand "makeup" happening.

How is he a Eunic? He hasnt been censured he still can vote and fight. He hasnt gone into hiding since this began...

His fighting is meaningless. No one is going to listen to him. He's a vote, sure, absolutely. But his ability to persuade and lead is destroyed.

Re: DC Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...

Who's going to follow him? The most liberal newspaper known to man thinks he's a fraud.

You do realize there is a reason newspapers are failing right?

If he was a Dead Man Walking like you pretend he is the outcry would be for him to resign. In state that isnt the case and nationally it doesnt seem to be either outside of some "Fire Them All!!1!!" people and the Liberal Press. He isnt Conyers or Moore and the Liberals need to stop equivocating them in any way.

That is right...in this case it is the Liberals that are false equivocating.

We do?

It's certainly a big male fear, but it is real?

Speaking as a male, and a former college male, the whole thing smells very much like Dump's "thousands of Muslims celebrating on rooftops" to me. I have no doubt they believe it, but that doesn't mean it happens, and it certainly doesn't happen with the probability that Frat Dirtbag fears.

I 100% agree with you. However, I think the outcome is inevitable. And it's unfortunate. There should be degrees. The degrees should be clear. And the punishments should be scaled. However, after years of covering this stuff up and being complicit pandora's box has been opened. Franken is guilty at the wrong time.

See the Garrison Keilor story if you don't believe me. It's laughable.

Yes, though not at the rate males believe it happens. My wife defends a few college students who get charged based on buyer's remorse after waking up the next day.

Yes it does. Maybe it didnt happen much back in the Roaring 20s when you were in college but it does happen. ;)

I understand there are occasions of buyer's remorse, and I understand there are occasions when grey areas compound grey areas and then later when clarity is demanded people impose an arbitrary interpretation (in either direction)*. Dr. Mrs, she of her millions of Women's Studies articles and sterling uber feminist cred, is convinced that at least half of date rape at least begins, and in many cases entirely consists of, missed and mixed signals. And there are even a few cases of out and out predatory grifting: the old badger game.

But. 50% of women report having been sexually assaulted (not just harassed). What % of that are false reports, either deliberate or massaged memories? 1%? We don't know and I don't know of anybody trying to quantify it, but for example what percentage of burglary reports are insurance frauds? It aint high, regardless of what the accused (or the insurer) would have us believe.

* A man breaking his journey between one place and another at a third place of no name, character, population, or significance, sees a unicorn cross his path and disappear. That in itself is startling, but there are precedents for mystical encounters of various kinds, or to be less extreme, a choice of persuasions to put it down to fancy; until – ‘My God,’ says a second man, ‘ I must be dreaming, I thought I saw a unicorn.’ At which point a dimension is added that makes the experience as alarming as it will ever be. A third witness, you understand, adds no further dimension but only spreads it thinner, and a fourth thinner still, and the more witnesses there are the thinner it gets and the more reasonable it gets until it is as thin as reality, the name we give to the common experience . . . . ‘Look, look!’ recites the crowd. ‘A horse with an arrow in its forehead! It must have been mistaken for a deer.’ -- Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

I suspect the incidence of sexual assault has been dropping for decades -- and for centuries -- as the ratio of humans-to-apes has crept upwards. Back in the Good Olde Days of huckleberry rural communities every girl in town had probably been raped by the time she was 15, if not by an uncle or brother (or father) then by the traveling seed salesman or the priest she went to confess the first attack to.

Rousseau was wrong. Civilization is all that stands between humans and apes.

I know at some schools coaches warn their players about this very thing and they arent Trumpers either in many cases.

I am not saying it happens tons but it does...just like false accusations happen. (see: Rolling Stone and the UVA rape story)

Re: DC Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...

We had it happen at MTU my junior year. She was on a project team of mine, then suddenly stopping showing up to meetings. A few weeks later, it came out that she had accused a male student of rape, but admitted under further questioning that she had concocted the story for attention and plead mental disturbance. She had...issues.

Re: DC Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...

if the Liberals seriously push for it (without the Ethics Committee suggesting it) they are going to cause way more issues for themselves down the line than they will solve.

Franken will get his in due time...but you dont cut off your nose to spite your face.

100% agree. And so should everyone on this board. Especially with the first sentence. They are going to severely damage the hopes of retaining a vulnerable seat in 2020.

The Republicans voting for Moore would say the same thing.

Like I said, I'll bet it does happen. But the coaches warning the players speaks to the fear, not the reality, and also jibes with the Ooo-rah Coach Aesthetic: "treat 'em like a prostitute til you're sure of em, boys -- bros before hoes."
