Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0 - II

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0 - II

Well, I was wrong. The gun this guy used wasn't an AR-15. It was a Sig Sauer MCX. Which after the advertisement I saw for one is built exclusively for killing humans. There can be no other possible use for the thing. It also explains how he smuggled a rifle into the club cause this sucker folds up.

Wow.

It had a telescopic stock...its not like that makes it the size of a handgun.

It is a semi auto sporting rifle.

No, they don't. But now the box of ammo that has an MSRP of $49.99 now costs Johnny Street Crime $60 or more cause he has to go to one of his buddies to get it for him. It's not much, but it is a slight deterrent. But then again the gun was also obtained through an illegal straw purchase, so it's nothing new.

I'd really like to see numbers in regards to crime committed with legally obtained firearms vs illegal ones. I'd wager that probably over 50% is legal, but it's not in the 90+% range. Anyone ever come across a legit stat like that?
No hard numbers but no numbers near 50%

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0 - II

Its not surprising. Many people that buy a gun to commit a crime know that they're going to use it for crime when they make the purchase, at that point, they wouldn't want their name attached to it, like it would be in a normal legal purchase. Also if they're repeat offenders, and felons, they wouldn't pass the background check anyway. I would imagine they are mostly black market weapons, stolen or smuggled in through Mexico.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0 - II

We already make it illegal to "use" a gun to shoot someone. Tell me exactly how we regulate "ownership" or purchase of cellphones to solve the texting and driving problem.

We license drivers. We require cars to be titled and registered.

Meanwhile, less and less states are requiring anything for concealed carry permits (they're going to "shall issue" instead of "may issue"). And gun registries are illegal by law.

Re: Days Since Last Mass Shooting: 0 - II

You think trap shooting or target shooting is not benign? Seriously? Wow.

I think that's just practice for the real thing.

That's like saying swinging a bat in a batting cage is completely different from swinging one in a real game.

Wow. I bow to your high-level trolling. Well done, sir!

Sweet! Olympic medals will be handed out in Practice Murder in Rio... I gotta check that out!

I'm only being half-facetious.

Entering a contest at a driving range doesn't mean a golf club's primary purpose is to be used for that contest rather than in an actual round of golf. Likewise, using a gun to shoot targets doesn't negate the fact that a gun's primary purpose is to kill things.

Its good to know that you think the thousands of trap and skeet leagues in this country are just people practicing for when they want to kill people.

That is one of the dumbest ****ing things I have read. You are so absolutely, completely wrong that it is obvious thst there is no point in ever thinking you hsve a valid opinion on this topic again. Kindly **** off you ignorant pile of ****.

Many of the traditional Olympic events dating back to Greece can trace their roots to military drills or competitions among soldiers. You don't even have to look that far. I mean, come on, pole vault? javelin? archery? Even shotput and the hammer throws are essentially how far you can throw a stone. Let alone wrestling and boxing.

Shooting events fit in perfectly, NTTAWWT.

The gun's primary purpose is the task to which its owner puts it.

I never said "want," so don't ascribe to me your personal desires.

The AR-15 was designed to be used by the military. That it's now sold to civilians doesn't change the fact that it was designed to be used in wars by soldiers.

And it's funny how trap shooting only comes up when people point out that guns are designed to kill. Every other time, people need them for self defense or hunting...

One trigger pull = one bullet being fired. Hence, semi-automatic.

The AR-15 is just like many other rifles and handguns out there. But it's really scary-looking so BAN IT.

So now we can't even talk about the gun that was used in the latest incident (and several of the others)? Why is that off limits?

edit: ok, they're saying it was something else now, but the point stands.

The AR-16 was designed to be used by the military. That it's now sold to civilians doesn't change the fact that it was designed to be used in wars by soldiers.

I own a hunting knife based upon a military design. Does that mean it's really a misapplied tool should I take it hunting, the purpose for which my father purchased it?

I'm for making all the background checks/sales law more consistent (and adding mental health checks), but people tossing around "assault rifle" like the AR-15 is just redonkulous. It's just a different looking rifle than many others out there.
