Dave Hakstol named head coach of Flyers

Re: Dave Hakstol named head coach of Flyers

Maybe the UND players will now stop squeezing the sticks too tightly in the tourney. Philly fans will eat him up if he doesn't produce.

Re: Dave Hakstol named head coach of Flyers

This is stunning. When was the last time a college head coach made the jump to a head job in the NHL.

It must have happened since "Badger Bob" Johnson went from UW to Calgary in 1982, but I can't come up with any other names.

I'm assuming since Ron Hextall's kid played at North Dakota, that's the connection to how this idea was hatched by the flyers.

Seen and heard on GPL:

At least he has a good memory to go back to for all his home games at Wells Fargo Center. I wonder if every time he looks up at the scoreboard, all he will see is 0.6....

This wasn't meant to rub it in, I just thought it was too good not to share.

I think even Herb Brooks didn't go straight from NCAA HC to NHL HC.

Edit: Well, not when he left the Gophers, evidently. He did go straight from SCSU to the North Stars, but that was after having been an NHL HC earlier in the 80s.

The first time he left Minnesota was to the Olympic team, and then if I remember right he coached in Europe for a season after that before taking the Rangers job.

Re: Dave Hakstol named head coach of Flyers

Word is Hakstol didn't even tell his players that they found out via twitter.

Re: Dave Hakstol named head coach of Flyers

Having accomplished everything he could in Division 1 hockey, Hakstol accepts the head coach position with the Philadelphia Flyers.
