It happened at Princeton last year. The refs just knew immediately to award the goal in that situation.

Who was Princeton's opponent when it happened last year?

Couldn't have been RPI. I was there for that game, and no such goal was credited.

It was the first empty net goal; I didn't see the puck go in.

My recollection is that both of Princeton's empty net goals were shot into the net, rather than being awarded as a result of a penalty.

Dr. D may have been drinking that night, but I wasn't.

Dr. D may have been drinking that night, but I wasn't.

Neither was I, considering I also recall dealing with an a-hole driver on I-380 on the way home. There was a penalty signaled.

Maybe that's why I did not remember it! I too thought both were shot in.
