Dark Horses "Who are they"

And-away-we-go

Black Horses
Almost every one discusses the ups and downs of teams, coaches coming and going, all the gazelles, great lines and teams, or who is going to win this week.
I want and hope that we can shed some light on the other truly great athletes who for whatever reason play on or for teams that struggle season after season. The Dark Horses
Names and why you think they should be included wanted.

Kate Leary BC
Kate has always been a pure scorer with great hockey sense and hands. It's too bad that it took so long for her coach to give her a chance!

Listen I love Leary and she has really become one of our elite players, but it's not like Kinger has had her benched the last few years.

Also I don't think BC is the kind of team the original poster had in mind hahaha

Re: Dark Horses "Who are they"

It's easy to point to goalies on teams that are struggling, because they get the most work, so obviously people like Elaine Chuli, UConn, and Shenae Lundberg, Union, have to be in the conversation.

I don't know if Princeton count as struggling, but Kelsey Koelzer is putting up some great points.

Over at Syracuse, two freshmen, Alysha Burriss and Stephanie Grossi, are having very solid seasons. I didn't pick either of them out particularly when they played at BC at the start of the season, but that was not exactly a showcase for Syracuse. They're both putting up numbers that suggest that with more support they could be doing extremely well.

I like Kuehl out at Ohio State, great hands and not a puck hog!!! Sees the ice and makes good passes! I also like Union's goalie who set that NCAA shutout record against Northeastern.

The Union Goalie "Lundberg" has quite a pedigree on the Union Women's ice hockey site.

Re: Dark Horses "Who are they"

Penn State is only in its third season, so there really isn't enough history to mention "ups and downs", but I think the standout player is sophomore forward Laura Bowman. She's a playmaker, whether that means she scores herself or she sets up a goal (she's excellent at both). She's solid at even strength, on the power play, and on the penalty kill - just an all-around very smart hockey player. This season has been a breakout season of sorts for Penn State, and they have quite a few players producing, including freshmen. Between the pipes, junior Celine Whitlinger has been outstanding. If not for the season-opener against Minnesota, her numbers would be up with the national elite goalies.
