D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

Fun little thing I like to do every year based on what I've seen, heard, read, studied on the Eastern Region this year. I'll let someone else tackle the West if they're willing. Obviously it's a big prognastication game with some teams playing as many as 12 or 13 games already, while others have played 6 or 7.

Here are my thoughts so far for the East:

1st Team-

F. Elliot Vorel, Wesleyan
F. Peter MacIntyre, UMass-Boston
F. Alex Jensen, Plattsburgh
D. Robbie Donahoe, Middlebury
D. Corey Hale, Norwich
G. Mathieu Cadieux, Plattsburgh

2nd Team-

F. Shane Gorman, Norwich
F. Colin Downey, Bowdoin
F. Josh Hawkring, Trinity
D. Zach Sarig, Plymouth State
D. Barry Roytman, Plattsburgh
G. Sean Dougherty, Williams

3rd Team-

F. Michael DeMare, Hamilton
F. Tyler Brickler, Geneseo
F. Josh Obregon, JWU
D. Jack Caradonna, Geneseo
D. Anton Racklin, Manhattanville
G. Jamie Murray, Babson

Wish I could have found someone from Amherst or Utica to slot in there. Those be my thoughts. Feel free to discuss.

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

Interesting. Gorman over Duszynski? I would have done it the other way. Not than they both aren;t very good.

I would go with Duszynski as well. I have only seen Norwich on the computer but 11 goals so far is nothing to sneeze at. He only has 1 assist because he is the trigger man like Mike Lukajic used to be for Oswego in the early 2000's, everyone else is trying to get him the puck.

I think Gorman has been the guy who has moved the puck and set everything up. Norwich's best games have happened when Gorman steps up.

This was my line of thinking. Not only has he been moving the puck, he's scored some absolutely huge goals including the game-tying goal against Saint Anselm late in the game and then game-winner against Skidmore in overtime. Shane isn't flashy but he has been the most consistent player on the team so far this year IMHO. Duszynski has had some great games for sure and is shooting the puck very well this season. Six of his goals have come in two games though....

When Norwich's top line is going, Norwich has been scoring and winning. They are carrying a lot of extra pressure this year. All three of them, Janke as well as the primary set up man, have had very good years so far.

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

Prez nice thread, but as for Oswego i still cant match the #'s with the names yet, only 8games in , may take til the end of the season to know whos who:eek:..i can say I do like Adams, and a whole bunch of freshmen.

F. Garrett Ladd, Wisconsin-Stevens Point
F. Josh Ranalli, Adrian

Let me get this right, you are telling me that there are 7 all americans on this Adrian team.
i've seen some pretty good teams in DIII but not one with more than 3 AA.
This must be quite a team but have they played and beaten a top 10 team yet ?

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

RE: Adrian

Ranalli? Absolutely.
Basso? Okay.
Cousineau? Uhhh....possibly. You can make an argument, but I think we're stretching a bit here.
Leone? No.
Hebebrand? No.
Hamby? Yes.
Shackell? No. Not enough time in net. And not with Jacobsen sitting there at SNC.

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

7 from Adrian including both goalies? One of your 2nd team forwards has two goals on the season. There are two SNC forwards (Hill and Cooper) and one at Stout (O'Donnell) that belong amongst the top 9 forwards in the west. I'm sure Adrian is a fantastic team, but they have ties against a team with a 3-9-3 record and a team with a 4-9-2 record; and, needed overtime to beat the last place team (2-10-1) in the ECAC. They have one win against a top 15 team. This weekend will be there toughest challenge of the season. We will see how that plays out.

The forward you discount because he only has 2 goals currently tied for most assists in the nation.
I expect he will make the list of 9 top forwards.

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

If Ovechkin can make 1st & 2nd NHL All-Star teams in the same season, at two different positions, anything is possible.

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

Assist are much easier to come by when you have a guy like Ranalli on your line. Put him on the second or third line and lets see how many assists he gets. I'd much rather see higher goal totals from All-American forwards. Not that I'm discounting assists, but he is on a pace to score 4 goals this year (12 last year) while his assist pace is about the same as last season.

While a very nice player Brooks isn't even the best defenseman on Point. Try doing something other than go right down the stat leaders next time. Otherwise you do things like put two goalies on the team who don't even lead their own team in minutes played.

Re: D3 Mid-Season All-Americans

Matt Galati I think has to be in the discussion right now. He is averaging a goal a game and 1.4 pts per game. Kenny Neil would be the next one from the Lakers but he still needs to heat up some more. If Galati keeps producing what he is doing then I think he is more than deserving.

Galati, while a nice addition to Oswego, isn't even in the Top 10 and barely the Top 15 in the SUNYAC scoring....he has just 2 points against the top 3 SUNYAC teams and 3 points against ranked teams....not over powering.....He will need to keep pace just to land on the All SUNYAC team (which will get him AA consideration). Hands down Stephen Collins from Geneseo is the SUNYAC ROTY...

Rarely does anybody from the west step up to the plate when the All American discussion is tabled.
From my perspective I applaud the effort. I think icechips did a nice job !!
