D1 Tournament: waiting for the credit due

Re: D1 Tournament: waiting for the credit due

Someone has pointed out this is the first Frozen Four without either UMD or Minnesota?
I mentioned it in the latest poll thread. Each has 7 appearances, and Minnesota was there the 3 straight years UMD wasn't -- 2004, 2005, 2006.

Re: D1 Tournament: waiting for the credit due

Two quick comments:

1. I have no idea why Maine backed out of their Minnesota trip, but the ended up playing 33 regular season games.

2. BU has it's own rink

Supposedly it was due to budget problems; Maine scheduled a home series with Mercyhurst instead for that weekend.

Isn't UNH's record at the Whit, particularly in Hockey East play, at least until the last couple of seasons, rather astounding? Both the dimensions of the ice sheet

I would buy the ice dimensions more than lighting, because the Whitt is considerably bigger (with deeper corners until this year) than the rinks in which most opponents play. That said, I would say that UNH benefited far more from a decisive talent advantage over most opponents until the last couple years, than from local knowledge of the Whitt. Their record outside of the Whitt was only slightly less dominant, primarily when facing teams of comparable or superior talent. As much as UNH fans cherished that HEA unbeaten streak at the Whitt, it was inevitable that it would be severely challenged with the talent drain of recent years, and the improvement of the rest of the conference.

So Brooky, should I take your answer as a positive response? When the schedules come out, let's see when the Gophers head east, and if you and some brethren can make it also, we can talk shore line restaurants then......

I'll have to let you know once the schedule is set...or some time before Minnesota heads east. I'd surely enjoy making the trip. Always enjoyed that area of the US when I've visited in the past.

2 points....Brooky, I hope that you guys will come along with your team as they visit UNH this coming year, with UNH heading west in 2013....no matter the season, the Atlantic and lobsters are still fun to take in! ARM, I know that the Whitt has given UNH a distinct advantage however with that said, UMD seemed to connquer it in 2009.....

Ah, acording to the all knowing, was just in the office and saw the schedule DC, the Wildcats head west for November 18 & 19, 2011.
