Great news I just went off the last post Hux had posted - again points to an even faster year of commitments.

Wow. It really seems the Minnesota schools/WCHA are grabbing girls quicker this year.

Indeed they have...it's great to see. You know those somewhat annual complaints in the high school forum...about Minnesota not recruiting locals like they should, which was generally based on one specific player or another in a given class not going to the U...never did ring true IMO. You're not going to get them all...never, no way, not gonna happen. Too many quality players for one roster. Too much competition for those players from excellent programs and universities with much to offer. This class reiterates that the U of M has done as much as any and more than most for the local player since the beginning, I think.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

So the other big shift is the WCHA schools have gotten earlier and getting MN Girls

2010 Class 37 from MN to D1
13 or 35% to WCHA
24 or 65% out East

2011 Class YTD 14
9 or 64% to WCHA
5 or 36% out East

Maybe but when you look at 2010 out of 37 D1 players they signed one and have another added late to roster. UM is smart and a top National program where many want to play so I hope as a top Gopher Fan you are right and they continue to give the top players who grow up in MN a chance to play there. The one area we can agree on is there are a lot more MN grils pursued and at MN than at UMD with 5 MN out of 16 on 2010-11 Roster.

You can look at 2010, but it's not really accurate to make a judgement on one recruiting class. A judgement on whether the local college hockey program is doing right by the Minnesota player that is. I still think it's correct to conclude, no program has done more for the local player since the sport became a varsity sport at the WCHA schools. The #s will vary from year to year...there have been, and will be more classes when top Minnesota players decide for themselves to play elsewhere for their own reasons, and not for lack of recruiting by the U staff. I'm making that distinction just to address those "complaints" I mentioned earlier. Many of those complaints about the U not grabbing local player X or Y in a particular class were examples of players choosing another program when they were in fact being recruited by the U. I'll also acknowledge the U probably did not actively recruit some players locals thought they really should have. I do think it's fair to say Brad Frost & Co. will focus on the "cream of the crop" in state so to speak. On a yearly basis you only have room for X number of players and you must also go outside the state in any attempt to build a championship team with the world class competition in NCAA hockey today. That's it from me on the topic...end of thread hijacking. ;)

Yesterday I posted you were scarin' me with the absence of Miss Lorence. Now I know you're doing it on purpose. ;)

Edit: Hey...disregard please.

I looked at it, scratched my head and said "OK, what gives?" I don't know how she ended up off in the ether, but it has been corrected.
