D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Iirc, the MIT program has been, or is slated to be disbanded, which is why I left them off.

Fair enough, for Canuck players one of the most prestigious Engineering schools with a Hockey program is Waterloo in Ontario.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

As with their business school, the engineering program is fairly well respected, although out is not ranked up there with the dedicated engineering hockey schools like RPI or RIT.

or Clarkson and Cornell

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

I've got her listed at 5' 8" shooting left. Let's say...5' 9".

Does UNH offer an engineering program?

UNH does indeed have a fine Engineering Department. One could argue the relative differences between Clarkson's, RPI's, or Cornell's, etc. One could ask the innocent question whether Minny, Wisco, or OSU offer an Engineering program. They all do. The more important question is to ask whether the Coaching staff will support a student athlete playing D1 hockey and studying engineering.

The head coach at UHN told my daughter is was impossible to study engineering and play D1 Hockey. Not without a rocky road, she proved him wrong elsewhere.

Excellent point regarding the coaches buy in. I hope the Kashman's ask the question.

Good for your D, and smart planning/recruiting tips.

I'm a firm believer, actually make that a staunch supporter, in the Student-Athlete concept rather than the Athlete-Student concept. Our family taylored all of our choices over the years around that guiding principle.

There are plenty of examples of great hockey players that also excel in the class room, some of them in the more time consuming disciplines like Engineering and the Medical Sciences.

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

or Clarkson and Cornell

True, but I wasn't trying to make an complete listing of the quality engineering programs at hockey schools. I was referring to the primarily engineering/institute of technology schools, in comparison to the program at UNH, which is a more broadly focused university.

After all, you can major in theatre at MIT, but that is hardly the school's focus to say the least.

well If I am not mistaken, Clarkson was originally just an engineering school, but have broaden their academics over the years.

They are ranked as one of the best engineering schools in the nation according to a US News ranking in recent years
From the Princeton Review College book
"Its undergraduate engineering program was recognized as one of the "Best Engineering Programs" whose highest degree is a doctorate."

The same is said for Cornell....:)

WHOOOOOOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the point, flying over your head.

ONCE AGAIN, I was NOT attempting to make a comprehensive listing of the quality engineering programs at hockey schools.

I WAS contrasting the engineering program at the more broadly focused university of UNH, to the more specifically focused engineering/technology schools like RPI or RIT.

It is a quality program at UNH, but not generally considered in the same breath as the more dedicated engineering/technology schools.

No need to Freak out :D

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

Whoa Freak, take a chill pill, I understand what your point was...Contrary to what you may want to believe, I did get your point. I was simply pointing out that RPI and RIT are not the only Universities that are heavy on the engineering side..I agree that UNH probably has a very good engineering program, as does UVM, SYRACUSE, and UCONN...but your original post was in regards to schools that are more dedicated to engineering/technology and to that point, I feel that Clarkson and Cornell fall under that category

I am hardly offended by your omission of these two schools, just trying to inform possible engineer students out there that also happen to play hockey, that there are more primarily engineering/technology schools available that also offer hockey.

Hux,

You do a great job with this but I have a question. Why do you state that 33 MN girls have committed when there are only 31 listed? Is it a typo or are there some girls you know about that aren't listed yet?

I'm guessing that a few more Minnesota girls will be committing soon. Standouts such as Hilary Crowe, Sammy Reber, Kayla Mork, Megan Bergland, Jessie Ryan, Kalli Funk and Morgan Illikainen haven't made their decisions or at least have not made them public yet.

Hmmm, good question. I was using a solar calculator, though it was rather dark. Guess I need to recompute. ;)

Re: D1 Commitments 2011-2012

BtD shows that RPI has received a commitment from Eleeza Cox. It states that she is a forward from St. Catherines, ON who plays for Ridley College and the Toronto Jr. Aeros. Although she is in the Aeros' media guide (link on RPI thread) and it also states that she plays for them on the Chowder Cup roster for the East Enders, she apparently chose to not play for them as she has not appeared in any of their games. She has been playing for Ridley.

If anyone has additional info, please post it here and/or on the RPI thread.
