Re: D-1 Transfer rules
Players moving from D1 to D3 are eligible immediately upon starting school at the new school. As an example, Ali Vakos moved from UConn to Plattsburgh last Christmas break - played first half of season at UConn and second half of the season at Plattsburgh.
Kids moving from D3 to D1 are eligible upon starting school at the new school within the constraints of the league rules, which may vary, and as long as they didn't drop from D1 to D3 recently (same season transfers are probably subject to a release from their current schools). As an example, Rebecca Fleming went from Holy Cross (D3 womens hockey but D1 school) to UConn over the past off-season. Generally, I don't think that D1 coaches recruit from D3 schools, but accept inquiries.
Okay, so what about transfers from DI to DIII? There are always several of those each year.
And what about transfers from DIII to DI? Does that ever happen? Is there a sit out rule? Can DI coaches recruit DIII players?
