Funny anecdote related to this: Back in the early 90's, there was a series of creepy clown sightings all round the southern Twin Cities suburbs, making it onto the newspapers and TV broadcasts. People were getting scared, some reporting that the clown had even been toting around an ax or hatchet. Well, it turns out that this lady was watching the news, looking at the map of sightings on the screen, and the dates listed, and she realized that she was at each of those sites - working as a birthday party clown. She called the police to let them know that she thought people were reporting her, the cops interviewed her and then came the oh, never mind reports in the papers and on TV. It was something like two weeks of build up for the whole thing, during early October, shortly after Stephen Kind's It mini-series had just aired.
