Covid 2023

The other idea I'm wondering is if basic hygiene has become a political statement. It is still shocking to see so many people NOT wash their hands after going to a public bathroom.

One side of the political spectrum has guys that don't wipe after doing a #2 because a male touching one's own bum is "homo".

That should answer your question.

Odd data in that first map- showing that the south have really high cases, where the north (not counting ND, since there's no data) is pretty low. Kinda debunks the theory that it's being indoors.

But I will say- we spent 3 weeks on cruises last month, hearing a lot of sick people (you know the kind of cough), and noting that many other ships had big break spreads of things- seems to us that the vaccines worked like a charm.

I wonder how many people are not getting the flu vaccine anymore thanks to the controversy over COVID.

That theory has been around for what…hundreds of years? It’s not debunked. Just reinforces the other theory that getting vaccines significantly helps people not get so sick as to show up in the hospital for their illness. In that, yes, of course Southerners are going to lag behind. At certain points so far this year (and end of last), we’ve rotated between 20-25 people at my hospital out with strep, flu, and/or Covid. I’ve had my flu shot and Covid booster…and shocker, I’m not one of those people.

In Vegas it was like 10% who washed hands instead of 90% everywhere else I've ever traveled. I scrubbed my hands before eating anywhere. Just disgusting.

I think that's how it always goes. Also, it's been a VERY mild winter. So even if I'm wrong about the typical pattern, I'm guessing the warm winter has kept it in check in terms of being indoors with a bunch of people.

But that mild winter idea extends even more in the south, where even fewer will be cooped up indoors. psych explained it probably more accurate, though.

Maybe. But like I said, this isn't a new pattern.

I know a lot of people who got COVID around the holidays including my SO who had wicked cold like symptoms for a few days. I never had a symptom so I never tested. I probably should have though since I am supposed to get the booster on Sunday...

Yeah you should have tested. The main symptom is no symptoms at all. You daredevil you, pretty much a ticking time bomb. You are going to kill Grandma.

Did your SO say the line?

”I have tested positive for Covid. My symptoms are minimal I will shelter at home while isolating in accordance with CDC guidance. I am glad to be fully Quackcinated and Boosted.”

I had something the last few days. Started with a mild sore throat on Sunday night/Monday morning, which morphed into upper respiratory congestion on Tuesday & Wednesday, and shortness of breath + lower respiratory congestion yesterday. Took a COVID test and it was negative. As of this morning I appear to be on the mend. No fever, so I assume just a cold.

For me that lasted nearly a month. Never tested positive and definitely waned over time, but the cough lingered a long time

I had a nasty cold (could have been flu maybe?) in December. I tested twice and was negative for Covid.

She tested negative yesterday. Her mom (Patient Zero) tested negative the day before. Her mom had the latest booster she has not but still followed the same pattern almost to a T.
