Well, now he needs a scapegoat for his staggering incompetence.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

He needs to be removed...any way possible.

Yeah, well I'm furious Laura Ingraham has a television show where she gets to spew disinformation every night to a willing audience. So I guess we all have our disappointments in life.

Chump is a putz, but Jhina has been in no way transparent about their numbers and the WHO shouldn't be kissing Xi's butt. I would expect a 180 like that from Chump, but not from the WHO.

There's no doubt that the WHO had its failings in this crisis, but de-funding them absolutely makes the world less safe for the next pandemic. The WHO is also in a bit of a tough situation where they need access to countries like China to do research and to be able to get out even limited information (which countries like South Korea were apparently able to use to avoid the worst of this) requires them to play ball to an extent with dictators in countries like Iran and China. It doesn't do anybody any good if they get themselves ejected from such countries.

Wow. Can we please go all electric?

Where are you going to put all the nuclear power plants?

A recent study in the UK said that if the UK today went entirely electric for their entire transportation system, they would need six new nuclear power plants. And that’s just the UK. And nobody wants nuclear power plants anymore.

Let’s put his name on all the death certificates too.

“ BREAKING: The Treasury Department reportedly ordered that President Trump's name appear on the $1,200 stimulus checks being sent to millions of Americans impacted by the coronavirus outbreak, marking the first time a president's signature will be featured on an IRS disbursement.”

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Well looks like the (small) drop in deaths the past couple days was an aberration as we already passed 1500 dead reprted today and a lot of states have yet to report. (Worldometer)

Crossed 600k cases too...

Also, look at the tails of Italy and Spain. They are not Gaussian.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

I dunno, I look at lots of numbers looking for patterns. Plus I am looking for anything that can show that perhaps things are lightening up. If every day for a few weeks we see the same amount of new cases and the same amount of death that tends to inform how I think things will continue out. We are living in a time when people are begging to reopen business and if numbers arent getting better (especially new cases) then again I think it is important people see things arent trending well.

Since our numbers are incomplete due to the inability to test on massive scales I just look at as much raw data as I can find and hope for a light at the end of the tunnel. Seeing between 1500-2000 people dying every day (and between 20-30k new cases with new hotbeds popping up every day) doesnt make me think now is the time to be discussing easing restrictions.

Keep in mind, they think there are potentially a few hundred every day in NYC alone who aren’t tested because they aren’t going to test the dead and haven’t for a week or two.

Ahh, that's why. NYC is adding almost 4000 cases to its totals, patients where it was suspected Covfefe-19 may have been the cause, but they were never tested or diagnosed.

Oh. Good they’re doing that. Bad that so many lost their lives.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Wait, holy crap, if NY added another 3,800 that means somewhere in the neighborhood of 755 deaths per 1MM. That’s just crazy to think about. Almost one in a thousand New Yorkers died from this in a month. And we aren’t even close to being done with the first wave.

Are those 3800 directly related to COVID? Or are they padding stats for funding/masks/etc? Honest.

Highly probable that they are directly related to COVID, yes. The increase in deaths at homes and in hospitals where they couldn't get a confirmed positive test before death but suspected COVID has been well documented.

Thank you.

From what I read, they are based on recorded symptoms making Covid most likely, but died in hospital untested. They don’t include the 200/day at home.

Thank you.

I didn't want to make my post sound like some whack job, I was genuinely curious.

Yeah, that's my issue with the IHME model. They're overestimating the backside of the peaks by a large degree in Italy, Spain, and to an extent France, and they have similar sharp declines for NY and NJ. Italy has already left the confidence margin of their prediction 3 days (on the high side) after the model was updated.

I don’t think we’re seeing the same thing.

There hasn’t been a sharp drop in ..

Oh wait, are you saying the IHME models are assuming Gaussian still? Like, in the face of almost universal proof to the contrary? Jeebus.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Good lord. Their graphs are bizarre.

https://covid19.healthdata.org/italy

How on earth can you have grid lines (which should be equidistant except for log plots) that all start on the first of a month?

And holy ****. You weren’t joking. They have a forecast of about 250 deaths on 4/13-4/14 give or take. Italy was still in the mid 600s.
