COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Actually, if you get money in the hands of the little people, the big corporations make money every time they pay a power bill or a car payment or a mortgage. Get cash flowing from consumers, and the big lenders will start to see their interest payments rolling back in, too. Let’s call it “trickle up” economics.

No one that is smart is saying open EVERYTHING up. Some (including me) are saying, test the waters, open up some stuff. Gov Walz (MN) is looking into the same thing. If a business can open safely, let them open up. Now, if we see an uptick? Ok, close everything back down. No issue there.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Yep.

What was your number again?

You think my number will be closer than the half million or million deaths being tossed around, or is this some sort of bizarro world price is right game where you can’t be under?

I think my guess back in mid-March was based on the models, created by I'm assuming epidemiologists, scientists, etc., which predicted that without stringent measures, 1-2.2 million people would die. I think I guessed 1.5 million. I'm glad that most governors, and people in general, got their sh-t together, so it'll hopefully stay around 100,000-200,000 deaths, instead of 1+ million. No one was "tossing" those numbers around. If you knew the virus was never going to kill 1+ million, you also knew the only way to prevent such death was to shut the entire country down, which meant shutting down most of the economy.

So you're claiming to be smart?

How do you detect the uptick without testing the **** out of everybody? Trump has already said the feds are gonna stop funding testing. says it would be nice to have, but not necessary. Don't need it.

Without testing, and then tracking the contacts of those who test positive, we're right back where we were at the end of Feb., not knowing who is positive or not, or how widespread the infection has become. This opening, and then closing, starting and stopping, is gonna be worse than just waiting until we get a handle on the thing for good. And you're gonna have more people dead as a result.

How many dead is a good number for you? 100,000? 200,000? What do we have to reach before you pull your head out of your ***?

How, at this point right now, are we NOT going to see an uptick? Not nearly enough testing has been performed to figure out who has it, or, with the serum antibody test, who had it already. Way, way too early to open anything back up yet. Opening it back up right now just delays the whole flattening the curve process. What business can open up safely right now when we only have a handful of pieces to a 1,000 piece puzzle?

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Why are we back to arguing about opening crap again ?

Rube brought that up to the trickle up comment which has nothing to do with opening stuff back up. It meant getting money for basics that people can struggle with when laid off

They opened up landscaping businesses in MN this week.

You tell me on what to open, jack bags. The above came from the governor (and he's a D, so no politics here).

That's a very good piece. This is fun considering who is currently in charge of our government:

All of them then imagine a phase two, which relaxes — but does not end — social distancing while implementing testing and surveillance on a mass scale. This is where you must begin imagining the almost unimaginable.

The CAP and Harvard plans both foresee a digital pandemic surveillance state in which virtually every American downloads an app to their phone that geotracks their movements, so if they come into contact with anyone who later is found to have Covid-19, they can be alerted and a period of social quarantine can begin. Similarly, people would scan QR codes when boarding mass transit or entering other high-risk public areas. And GPS tracking could be used to enforce quarantine on those who test positive with the disease, as is being done in Taiwan.

Yeah, no. If the alternatives are giving that data to Dump and the GOP or staying home, I'll stay home thanks. The Nazis have shown us who they are. I'm going to take them at their word. These f-ckstains and the farm animals who voted for them need to be scraped off the national shoe as the barely bipedal feces they are. They are not to be given anything like that power.

Here we go. Brainless dimwits getting hard over this

“ JUST IN: Republican lawmakers Andy Biggs and Ken Buck called out Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, in a fiery new op-ed, saying Fauci and other public health experts "should no longer be the primary voices at the table" amid the Trump administration's coronavirus response.

For Fauci, is it merely a societal or economic inconvenience that about 17 million workers are unemployed because of the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, with many more to come in the weeks and months ahead? The economic calamity lies largely with the origination of policies resulting from Fauci's recommendations,” the lawmakers wrote.”

Dead people are no longer unemployed? Or maybe they have some sort of fix in for the embalming, coffin, undertaker business. I have passed the point of feeling any reaction. Reading the Rube's post about how we need to open up sometime and then all the GOP lobotomized elicits no reaction except for realizing no amount of fact, trying to explain or trying to protect people from the stupid of others is a lost effort. People just can't seem to understand that complaining this is disruptive and petulantly saying it has to stop some time doesn't make this go away. It just shows how unable Americans are to behave like adults- even when it will kill someone. They are tired of playing pandemic and think if they complain it isn't fair enough then they get to do what they want. Virus doesn't negotiate. It just kills people. If the people go find it then the virus parties harder.

A friend of the family died in my city today, from COVID-19 , the first death from the virus to affect me personally. What was surreal, is very real now. Stay safe all.
Sorry to hear. I know when my family member was hospitalized reading all the stupid just seemed more acute. Prayers for all. (serious ones, not the thoughts and prayers type).

I know I can be tracked, even via dumbphone, but at least I can't get an app to make it easier.

Did he go through a big bank?

No.

This thing is a complete and total dumpster fire. I know you have high hopes but nothing about it is working the way it is supposed to because it was rushed and underfunded.

Leaving all your electronics at home is a start. So is paying by cash and not traveling by car.

Not to be paranoid, but these reptiles already have plenty of leverage and we should be withholding every micrometer of privacy from them that we can. When they have been burned on the pyre of history and we have an actual democratic government of laws again we can discuss the balance between privacy and safety. But these pathetic gorillas get nothing.

Huh? Why would you want to not participate in something that could make this get under control faster. I really do not belong in this country. What other country would people be proud to oppose something, even when it would result in blocking the spread of diseases, and think this is an admirable trait?

Moot point anyway, as if Dimwit Donnie's administration would ever implement something like that to track the virus. They don't care about the virus. They would gladly sacrifice a million or two Americans if it would mean Wall Street regains everything it lost. Wall Street is all that matters.

And even if they did implement it, it would work about as well as their loan program to small business.

Also, designed and implemented by people who have no business being in the positions they are in.

I don't want to be tracked, although I know that is a pipe dream nowadays. I don't want Big Brother. It's a slippery slope once they have your number, no pun intended.
I know it's false security, but it's why my real last name is not my FB name, etc.

The German Nazis were incompetent too, and they still managed to murder some Jews.

Reading German historians who wrote about the Nazis during and after the war is fascinating. One of the minor galling things, in addition to you know all the genocide, is that fascists are terrible administrators. Nothing runs well. All that stuff about how the trains run on time is bogus, because at the heart of fascism is the Cult of the Leader and all the backbiting and court politics that implies.

Dump's regime is exactly like Hitler's in this regard: it is intentionally built shabbily and with no efficient way to communicate or accomplish anything. This is so that (1) no underling can develop a rival power center and become a threat to the Leader, and (2) all emergency requests must run directly through the Leader who then enforces his omnipotence by personally granting or denying the request. Obviously he is thus showered with constant praise and toadying, since your whole project (or life) comes down to his whim.

That's just how Dump operated his business and now it's how he runs the White House. It's intentionally incompetent.

I’m sure everyone may have a unique experience but I had literally zero problems.
I had the application to the bank, along with the company tax returns, on April 2 ahead of the April 3 application date.

On the 3rd the bank sent me an email with a revised application form that the SBA implemented on the 2nd. It was actually an easier form to complete but it did require me to spend another 15 minutes filling it out.

On Monday the 6th the bank called and asked for a company balance sheet, which I emailed to them that day.

On the 7th they called and told me it was approved, and they set up the closing date, which is important because that starts the 8 weeks of payroll.

We set that up to coincide with our regular pay period for an ease of bookkeeping. Done.

Now I just have to keep track of what I spend the money on, then at the end of the eight weeks, submit the loan forgiveness application and my book work.
