COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Yeah, about that....

Some of you may recall that I posted my mother's stepbrother was in an ICU. He was sedated, so his family gave permission to use Hydroxychloroquine experimentally. After that, the ventilator burst his lung (they were having to use too much pressure to keep his O2 levels up). He had surgery for that 11 days ago. A week ago, he got a plasma transplant from a family friend who had recovered from Coronavirus, and he made a marked improvement within 24 hours so that he needed less pressure and less purity to maintain O2. They've been trying to ease him off of the sedation ever since then in preparation for removing the ventilator entirely, but every time they back off on the sedation, he has severe heart arrhythmia and his O2 crashes so they have to crank up the sedation and the ventilator again. Guess what is a key side effect of hydroxychloroquine?

He's now been under sedation for 16 days and counting.

Thanks, Trump!

"What do you have to lose?"

Again, wish you and yours the best and hoping for a recovery.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

I'll allow it.

Also, this is interesting.

So Great Lakes States would have been a more apt description. :)

So, the Great Lakes States = The Rust Belt minus PA plus MN?

And why aren't PA and NY Great Lakes States? NY probably has more Great Lakes coastline than any state except MI.

Say what you will about Leonard's attitude, but I'm pretty sure "That's No Way to Say Goodbye" is still the world's best song, in 2020.
(given that it once upon a time burrowed into my soul in connection with a particular girl, ymmv - but he was a great writer)

Oddly included: KY

Apparently I have no idea what the Midwest means.

Edit: Edit 2, nm.

Couple of things- 1) some auto plants in KY. 2) KY was one of the early states to SIP. For the latter, many of the local states are roughly on the same time frame WRT infection rates. Roughly.

Whereas SD just let people work, putting some really, really important plants at risk- which has now played out that food plants are closed due to people not taking this seriously.

But it also means that I need to pay attention to what plant my meat comes from- I'm not interested in buying from plants who don't give a crap about their employees that badly. My company did work from home a day before the state did. And plans on a very long and spread out return. Some of which may not show up to the office for another 6 months.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Tons of Covid-19 research is getting put out before it is peer reviewed because of the immediate need to get the information out there
NPR did a great piece interviewing one of the journal editors (JAMA I think) last week. Used to get a few articles a day, now somewhere north of 150-200- maybe more- 250 comes to mind. They are trying to keep up with them but because of the time usually needed for peer review and the rapidly developing nature of the COVID19 they are trying to pump them out there with a caveat they are not peer reviewed and the validity is pending.

So, the Great Lakes States = The Rust Belt minus PA plus MN?

NOOOO!! NY is in our our team. You can't put them somewhere else.

Seeing a lot of China conspiracies floating around now. The FBI is investigating the possibility of [I can't remember the exact conspiracy but no mind]. If the Admin didn't try to reboot the Hillary emailzzz and make them investigate the Meuller probe the credibility would be a little less suspect. Feel for the FBI folks. Imagine trying to recover your reputation after the Orange Menace has co-opted and delegitimatized your function.... And the guy who told me only 12k deaths because he knows stats decided we peaked already- not sure if he means our State (wrong) or the country (more wrong). People are stupid.

Got a text from someone with a relative in FLA. Good Lord. Elderly group of widows who have in their midst one person who has shamed them all into not living in fear. Quoting all the Knucks who are saying it isn't as bad as they say. The relative has severe pulmonary problems. One of their family got VERY sick but recovered. I told them to make sure to ask for the # of the funeral parlor she wants to use.

Been seeing the reinfection story a lot but not really anything for an in depth story in a medical journal that says anything more than this. Until they solve the whole immunity thing I don't see how we can get anywhere.

You CHOOSE to live in Floriduh every day.

Do any of us really choose, though...

Oh good. 6pm eastern is his daily rant and today’s topic is how he and McKinsey will be reopening our economy.

I-70 is where the accents change. Ergo, everything below I-70 is the South and everything above I-70 is the Midwest.

Who cares? They're criminals, not people...only corporations can be both.

If you're talking about the Smithfield plant, the press out east that has been printed about that plant is a bit misleading.

First, it's a huge plant. There are close to 4000 people working in that building. Very, very early on they became extremely aggressive about constantly testing employees. As a result of that testing (and pretty much all testing) you find out the disease is a lot more prevalent than is otherwise being reported, hence the high numbers in that plant, and in SD in general.

The company was very aggressive in removing people who tested positive and in attempting to trace most contacts to get them removed as well. As a result, they finally elected last week to shut the plant down temporarily to make sure that they can clean the plant appropriately and get it back up and running while protecting their employees. You'll notice that South Dakota has very few deaths given the number of positive tests.

Finally, and this is the part that always gets glossed over by everyone. They are a food processing industry. That means they would have been classified as an essential industry. Even if the Governor had done what everyone says she should have done, the Smithfield plant would have continued to operate.

Re: COVID-19 The 7th Part: We're Gonna Be Number One Soon!

Radio Free Cafe here again for your entertainment pleasure, comrades!! :) Seeing the commie-hijacked D-1 COVID-19 thread has now closed down after hitting capacity, I figured "turnabout is fair play", and you socialist droogs would relish the chance to continue to get schooled on the grown-up world you've been missing out on throughout your extended adolescences in the <s>faculty lounge</s> Cafe. Two words begin today's lesson: Washington Post.

Yes - you read that correctly - cited by moi. The Post recently published the following article, citing a recent Harris Poll's results showing huge levels of agreement between those on the right and those on the left as far as seeing your comrades from the Chinese Communist Party being responsible for what has unfolded in the US and across the world in recent weeks ...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...turning-americans-both-parties-against-china/

The bipartisan consensus on China doesn’t stop there. Ninety percent of Republicans said the Chinese government is responsible for the spread of the virus, compared to 67 percent of Democrats.

Now, I know you folks aren't traditionally well-schooled on math, since it's sooo exacting and judgmental, and doesn't recognize subjective things, like feelings, privileges or oppression. But the cold, hard numbers confirm that while only 10% of Republicans have their heads rammed firmly up their posteriors, a full 33% of Dems are similarly afflicted. A smaller sample showed 90% of Café posters backing China, with their heads jammed up where the sun don't shine. So … either you're part of the lunatic fringes of the Democrat Party … or just a bunch of frustrated socialist Bernie Bros. Either way - tough to be such a small irrelevant sect.

But that's OK - even you contrarian folks on the fringe count too, and rather than rub your collective noses in it, I wanted to end today's visit on a positive note for our commies-in-training. I thought you might enjoy the following clip, which involves many of the Left's greatest <s>murderous tyrants</s> Thought Leaders, pitted against each other in a competitive - not collectivist - setting.

Spoiler alert - the Chinese guy wins. Past is prologue, eh? But you comrades knew that already, right?

Radio Free Cafe will be back again soon, whenever and wherever we choose. :)
