Covfefe-19 The 12th Part: The Only Thing Worse Than This New Board Is TrumpVirus2020

it won't come from blanket state mandates, but employers are starting to mandate and I think more will come. Already we see pretty big names like Tyson Foods, United Airlines, Microsoft and others. More will follow soon i'm sure. As soon as there is full FDA approval, I would think it is safe to assume this will be on the list of required vaccines for attending public schools.

It will also happen by making life more inconvenient for those not vaccinated (see NYC and gyms, shows etc).

And I think pretty much everyone here is more than OK with that, so we're really all arguing over something we're all pretty much in lockstep on. In the meantime, though, even though masks aren't a full 100% solution, they're a very useful tool to stop things from getting worse, in combination with the not perfect but still significant vaccine penetration, until all of what you mentioned has time to get baked in. Just because we don't have the gold package yet doesn't mean we don't make use of a few silver and bronze ones the best that we can.

Why is wearing a mask such a burden for anyone not doing hot, sweaty manual labor?

I don't like them either but if you think wearing a mask into the grocery store is a burden then you've had a pretty easy life (and good for you! No shade thrown here).

I can say I was in New Orleans, it was 85 degrees and suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper humid and I wore a triple layered mask everywhere including walking outside for hours. I honestly forgot it was on half the time.

I dont want to speak for J.D. but I think burden is the wrong word. We shouldn't have to worry about doing it at this point but a bunch of selfish pricks have made it so.

I liken it to when you have a brother or sister that causes problems all the time and so the parents put rules in place that restrict both of you even though you did nothing wrong. In reality it doesn't affect you at all but it still gives you the red ass.

JD Is vaccinated.

And as much as I don't want to agree with JD, I think the point you are missing that Handy (I think), and I also are alluding to is that we are close to the point of telling people who haven't gotten jabbed yet is if they are to stupid to go out and get the vaccine, then we aren't wearing a mask or doing other things to protect you for much longer so at this point we don't care if you get covid.

(And yes I understand it isn't that simple and there are mutations and a tiny percentage of people for who it does not work or cannot receive it etc)

Yes, although I am all talk I will never do it. Others will though. People are starting to get really angry...

If tomorrow Governor Walz set up a mask mandate for the State of Minnesota in total he would almost assuredly lose his re-election bid. (which I would say he is a lock to win now as only the Trumpers dislike him cause he did what he promised) For the most part, once the data was in, Minnesota did everything right. We had a slow early rollout but we got the jabs in the arms and hit the numbers we were supposed to. We wore masks, we socially distanced and we sacrificed as much as were asked to. (by "we" I mean the vast majority...or the people with an IQ above 12) We did that so we could open back up and return to normalcy. If all the sacrifice was for nothing he will lose the support of the Liberals who were the driving force behind those actions succeeding. You cant keep asking Minneapolis to risk economic collapse because some county with 300 people in the middle of "WeWishWeWereinNoDakstan decided they would rather all die. Even if ethically it is the right thing to do even the most bleeding heart liberals have a breaking point...

I would say we are reaching that breaking point. And the problem is I dont know what we can do to turn the tide. But it looks kind of stupid to impose wide spread rules when half the people flout them anyways. It feels rather irritating to see 100k maskless people at Sturgis or Lollapalooza when I have friends who havent seen their parents in 18 months.

If children whine about having to wear masks at school, I don't care. Schools have rules for a reason and we don't allow children to make a lot of their own decisions for a reason. Sometimes we don't let them do things even if their parents would be fine with it (e.g. - voting, buying or starring in porn, buying cigs/weed/booze), because a lot of parents are stupid, irresponsible, immature a55holes too.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. There is no discussion. If you slightly disagree on something about this just look at some of the responses. Rufus for one. I also never said I haven't or won't wear a mask. But again, some of you struggle with what is being said if it's not exactly what you want to hear.

Well to be honest rufus does that to everyone. He has done it to me when I agreed with him ;^)

Students rights are restricted all the time. Loco Parentis is a biotch ;^)

If there was a finish line in sight I would feel differently. But when it's variant whack a mole, that leads to how I feel about the mask situation. I do not care if a stubborn anti vaxxer gets sick.

Well, you see, you get vaccinated and wear masks, and pretty soon the variant whack-a-mole ends.

Don't do those things because you're "tired of it" or just don't want to make the effort, and here we are.

As I said, the people crying and whining about how much they want to get back to normal are the same ones who won't take the steps to enable that to happen. Grow up.

It is but the problem is by the time enough of them do it to matter we will be halfway through the alphabet. Look how long it takes to get them to up their wages...

It will take time, I'll concede that. We are probably looking at Mid-2022 before numerous "large" corporations require it. Even then, companies with a DERP "image" to maintain (Bass Pro Shops/Cabela's for example) will never go along. But having to make a choice between a paycheck and a jab is calling the bluff of a lot of the DERP. If they truly believe what they are peddling, well good on them I suppose. They can go out try and make a living some other way then. I just see this as a means to reach 50% of the DERP and force them to openly and publicly make a choice.

I agree that I am more talk, although my patience for nitwits who don't get vaccinated is getting pretty thin.

Please define "many". I have a hard time believing that immunocompromised people make up much more than 1% of the average population.

Absolutely no idea. But in a nation of 330,000,000+ people, I think my purposefully-insanely-vague use of "many" is probably correct, as 1% of the population is 3.3 million.

Not that I disagree with your point, mind you.

I hear you here. I hate masks. I have a full beard and they're just a total itch factory. I'm incredibly annoyed as, here in MA anyway, we absolutely had this thing beat.

But again, it is what it is.

I hate masks. I wear them whenever I can possibly interact with people (any social situation, any shop, and at work unless I am barricaded in my office alone).

It sucks but murdering people because I'm lazy would suck more.

But you know. Muh freedumbs.

Many autistic children have serious issues with wearing a face mask.

Exactly. And there are other situations. Ultimately I will wear the damn mask if it's required but when I run into personal issues where a kid can't do certain things because he struggles with a mask...it's not being selfish or entitled to want them to be able to do normal activities during very important developmental years. Not after 18 months of this. Not when I have followed the rules and gotten vaccinated.

And it's also possible for me to comply and wear the mask while simply not agreeing with doing so. That is possible. I am not going to lead some anti mask protest. I just want to see leaders put the primary focus on requiring the vaccine. Explore every available option.

How many times do you have to be told that I am vaccinated and wear the mask when called upon?

You probably could have saved yourself a lot of trouble and like 4 pages of posts if this was what you led off with.

The idea that because a small minority cannot comply with <mask usage or vaccinations or literally anything else> for genuine medical reasons and therefore we shouldn't mandate them for everyone else is absolutely ridiculous.

Just because some policy isn't 100% effective does not mean we should not follow it as much as possible. There's letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, and then there's just disingenuous dishonesty.

Seriously, this reeks of bleating about the mental health impacts of COVID-related shutdowns and then insulting Simone Biles or the Capital Police for... having mental health issues.

Your crocodile tears are noted and dismissed.
