Here's hoping he caught a cold.

Well since he is fully vaxxed I was more worried about pneumonia which thankfully he does not have. Though after 2 heart attacks even minor COVID could be bad so here is hoping he has a sinus infection.

The fact that we are still dealing with this is proof that sometimes people need to shut the fuck up about their freedoms and just do what is best for everyone. The GOP as convinced half this country that it is Anti-American to sacrifice for the greater good.

Trying my best but can't find a source that provides data (if it exists?) to support the idea that the more that vaccinate the less likely variants will develop.

When an orc asks, "Why do you care if I vaccinate?" I'm looking for beyond the obvious.

A virus is very primitive, and it's DNA or RNA (depending on if it is a DNA or RNA based virus) replication is extremely error prone. When a virus uses the host cell to replicate, its making thousands of copies, each of which contain an average one mutation per 10 kilobases (if I remember right, SARS-CoV-2 genome is around 30kb). Many of the mutations are detrimental to the virus. Some of the mutations prove to be beneficial, because they may make the virus more transmissible. If they have an advantage, mutated strains quickly become the dominant strain.

The more a virus is able to spread throughout a population and replicate, the more times we're rolling the dice and the more chances there are that a beneficial (to the virus) mutation will occur.

This blog uses HIV as an example: https://www.virology.ws/2009/05/10/the-error-prone-ways-of-rna-synthesis/

Here is a stunning example of the consequences of RNA polymerase error rates. Tens of millions of humans are infected with HIV-1, and every infected person produces billions of viral genomes per day, each with one mutation. Over 10[SUP]16[/SUP] genomes are produced daily on the entire planet. As a consequence, thousands of mutants arise by chance every day that are resistant to every combination of antiviral compounds in use or in development.

The exact wording here is going to be important, but the "contractors" piece is the endgame here. That's a huge swath of corporate America. If a "contractor" is a company, then they just mandated vaccines for >1M people in just the top ten contractors alone. Add in GE, DeLoitte, Accenture, FedEx, Verizon, AT&T... Millions.

Again, depending on how they worded it. I hope they did this right.

Edit: On top of the 9+ million employees of the federal government.

Edit 2: Even if this isn't done right, I found an article from The Brookings Institute that said 4+ million contractors were impacted by the federal government shutdown. That should put us close to the "stupid way" number. So 13+ million people. Let's assume that roughly 50% of them are fully vaccinated. That leaves 6.5 million who are now required to get it, be subject to weekly testing, or quit. That's 1.9% of the US population. Obviously some are going to take the stupid route. But it still moves us closer and closer.

If you take the blunt object approach and require it for contractors as entire corporations, that's huge. Now add in the 0.25 million employed by CA, healthcare workers in CA (2M), Cal State system (0.5), NYC (0.33)...

I imagine this is only the start of the wave of employers mandating it.

CDC reverses its earlier guidance and strongly encourages fully vaccinated people to wear masks inside public places where there’s high or substantial spread of the delta variant.

Makes more sense to get the FDA to mandate full authorization so businesses, schools, etc can say "Do it or homeschool without a job" before pushing 3rd jabs in people who are already more careful and responsible.
