MO now? That's Delta wreaking havoc. I posted about it a page or two ago.

Essentially they didn't get hit that hard in the main waves (not sure how) and they haven't had high vaccination rates. So the most contagious version of COVID we've seen is now going to find every person it can and, well, they're getting hit hard.

And their Qovernor is campaigning against allowing the Feds to come in and try and get people vaccinated. Just another state I have no need to visit again.

Go back to my post asking dx about the map. Read the last sentence. Thank you for your time.

You can drop the attitude. I think the USA Today is full of crap, and anyone who believes that is pre-disposed, as you are, to believe any silly thing that downplays stupid behavior like having a gathering of half a million people during a god damned pandemic.

That half a million people scattered throughout the country after it in the weeks and months before we had the fall surge (which then led to the winter explosion). Surely even Trumpists can understand that 1+ 1 = 2

Mentioning predisposed beliefs ...

Sorry that I don't put a lot of stock into the news-gathering abilities of the newspaper that's given out free at moderately priced hotels. They aren't exactly known for being a hard and accurate news gatherer. Wire stories aside, their value is... low. I read the article and they come to the same conclusion that the COVID deniers come to, based on some kind of silly things like taking the SD governor at face value, so what does that tell us?

"McPaper."

I am astounded it has lasted. It's not dumb enough for the NY Post / Washington Times low brows, it's not "completely unchallenging but almost smart" enough for the LA Times / Boston Globe middle brows. It's a little shy of mediocre. It's the newspaper equivalent of John Grisham.

It's actually kind of... Joe Biden.

Cases in Mass are doubling every six days and Maine’s seven day average is up over 50% in the last week. We’re in serious trouble and I think the next couple months could be one of the toughest parts of the pandemic. The deaths and hospitalizations won’t be close to what they were over the winter but we’re going to have a really tough time getting things under control. I would anticipate a lot of unrest if governments need to bring back restrictions which they will almost surely have to.

Any sort of restriction isn't gonna happen. Politically it's a death sentence. There is also the legit possibility that in certain parts of the country, the Middle-Aged, goateed LARPers actually try and live out their fantasy for real. And no one wants that blood on their hands.

And right now, most infections and deaths are pretty much by choice. Not all- a lot of people can't get vaccinated.

But it was pretty hard to see a report of a woman who had gotten infected and hospitalized twice, and is just 'considering' getting the vaccine.

I’m not sure how true that is. I’d be very interested in seeing data on breakthrough infections strictly for the last couple of weeks.

Vaccinated people might be getting the virus, but it is mostly manageable and more (ironically) flu-like. Deaths are almost all unvaccinated. Nearly every story and every expert agrees on this from what I have seen since Delta started spreading.

Restrictions won't happen again even in the Bluest of Blue States/cities. People are done with it and in truth you cannot expect the responsible to be punished to protect the stupid. At this point those who will take the precautions already have and we have sacrificed enough for a bunch of morons who believe we are magnetic and getting sweet 5G service. Fuck them. They can go into hiding we already did our part to protect everyone.

I will wear a mask when needed but shut downs are not possible anymore.

I’m just hoping I get hazard pay again when the isolation unit opens up in my hospital again this fall/winter. What sucks is the patients will probably be a lot sicker than most of them were the last time around.

1. It's not going to be as bad. 70% are vaccinated.
2. Viruses tend to evolve into more contagious, less dangerous variants. There's no extensive evidence Delta is any more (or less) dangerous than the others.
3. We've learned an assload on treatment. That will only improve.
4. We have treatments (not just vaccines) in development that last I checked, Pfizer expects around December.
5. The virus is extremely unlikely to evolve into something g that totally evades the vaccine. The vaccine targets the "crown". Unless the coronavirus suddenly drops its corona, it's going to be hard to evade this completely. And, as one of the big med journals said, if it changes that much it is likely to lose everything that makes it easy to catch.

Well, the data I'm seeing is that +99% of the deaths are unvaccinated. I've also seen headlines that vaccinated are less likely to spread delta, too. So when there is real data showing a problem for the vaccinated, I'll get worried then.

Hospitalized, also, I believe.

So, 99%+ of those sick enough to be hospitalized haven't been vaccinated.

For those who have been vaccinated, and get a breakthrough case, in most instances it really is just like having the flu, as the wingnuts' have been screaming about for the past year.

And for healthy people getting Covid it’s really like just being healthy. You know the no symptoms “cases.”

Boosters right around the corner!

Mostly agreed, other than to add that I do feel bad for those who legitimately can't be vaccinated and who may have to continue to isolate as local/regional flare-ups occur.
