When this is all over I’m sure it will be clear one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made is continuing in person school.

Wow. A deep thought from a ^CovidZombie

I’m not surprised. We’ve let kids do a bunch of stuff since “they’re not very affected” so of course the virus figured out a way to mutate and be more effective.

As Jeff goldblum said, life finds a way.

I actually had to think about which movie that was from. Somehow it seems to fit just about every Goldblum film.

Oh come on now...it was obviously a good natured mistake. I mean how were the doctors and nurses supposed to know how many doses came from each vial. I mean I doubt Pfizer told them...and it isnt like it has been discussed in stories about the vaccine forever!

It's not like you can just go until you run out and then turn people away...

Nah. Not actually shutting down travel by air. That was such a fucking stupid no brainer. I see so many people still doing vacations right now. Just boils my fucking blood.

Truly essential travel, fine. What we’re doing? Nuh uh.

It's a basic principle. Your health is YOUR responsibility, not everyone else's. If you feel at risk shield, don't demand the imprisonment and ruination of the lives of the healthy.

It is easy to eat badly, take the $ and think a face mask will save you. Harder to eat the right things, work diligently, exercise and fresh air. With Covid the lazy get to lecture the conscientious.

actually, overfilling of vials has been commonly reported, so hospitals are often finding 1-2 extra doses per vial.

most states got approval to use the extra doses (but not mix partial doses from multiple vials). States didn’t want to use extra doses and then not get enough for corresponding second doses a few weeks later so they had to clear it with the feds.

Air travel ensured quick spread between places. In-person school (and re-opening businesses) ensured communities would be quickly saturated, overloading hospitals.

Two different types of transmission, each lethal, each the direct result of a policy decision by an incompetent bunch of grifters and abetted by the bankrupt ideology of conservatism.

There were news stories when the vaccine rolled out about how vials had extra doses in them. (a few called it a Hanukkah Miracle which is clever) I don't buy for a second these health officials made a mistake because they didn't know. If randos like me know then they knew.

There were about a thousand things they could have done with the extra doses if they realized it after the fact. I am guessing they realized it before they told the old people in line to leave...

Plus, how many people do you have to vaccinate before you see that there are extra doses available? From what I read, there's an extra dose in the Pfizer vials, two or more in the Moderna. Don't know how many vials they got, but after you vaccinated ten or 15 people you should be realizing that you have more doses available, and just keep going until you run out. Not just say, "we've got vials for 200 people so the rest of you need to go home." Just wait till its all used up before you send people home.

As I said, these people need to go to jail. Theft of government property, government services, fraud, something.

Scotland going full lockdown for a month and sounds like rest of UK will soon follow. No reason to think we won’t be in the same boat in a few weeks.

We should be, but I’m sure many red states won’t.

because this strain is more infectious, we have to assume it takes less to get it- so I’m going to start avoiding stores for quick runs now. If 12-15 mins were likely needed to expose before, it’s probably around six minutes now- and safer to assume that. Slavitt said the same thing

One thing I would like to ask the powers that be is if schools aren’t safe to be open in UK why are they safe here?

First when I heard about 20M doses in December, I thought that was a lofty goal. Today I decided to research how many flu shots occur each year and in what time frame. From August through December 192.3 million doses of flu vaccine were distributed, with an average of 19.1M per week in the month of September.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/prevent/vaccine-supply-distribution.htm
So, 20 million over 3 weeks seems completely doable.

Now, I know there are some storing and handling complications with the Covid vaccine, but it seems that there is already in infrastructure set up to distribute a large number of vaccines during ~4 months a year. Why aren't we tapping those same resources?

Also, for as much as we hear about super cold storage for the Pfizer vaccine, it has to be thawed before it goes in someone's arm, and from what I've read it still has a shelf life of 3-5 days at refrigerated temps. So while the storage does complicate things, I don't think it's to the degree (pun intended) that some make it out to be.
