Wasn't Hovey also the one early on who was spouting that only 20k people would die from this, and that we were all overreacting?

That didn't age well.

That was his estimate, yes.

And he scoffed at me for saying that half a million Americans were gonna die from this. Cause, you know, I knew who was in charge of the response for this country. I don't know why he seemed to think Donnie would actually be capable of a competent course of action in fighting this, but apparently, Hovey thought he was. Which brings his judgement into question.

Yes, back on March 13 someone (I think slapshot) asked if people had a guess as to how many might die from Covid in this country, and I guessed 20,000. I've never denied that, nor have I denied that my guess didn't turn out to be even close.

But since I don't recall you in here back in March offering your guess, I really don't care how you feel about my guess. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Your guess was actually "one half million to one million." I don't recall scoffing at your guess. Like mine, it was just a guess.

Ok that is ridiculous. There is zero symbolic value to that and there are people who actually do something of value (Frontline Workers) who deserve it way more.

That is the guys who make the rules taking care of their own, pure and simple.

Why are we wasting time worrying about who deserves it more. Just get it into someone's arm. Every time someone is vaccinated, anyone is vaccinated, we are that much closer to ending this crap.

Explain how time is "wasted" by commenting on the order?

Isn’t this the same doctor who said regular testing of Congress wasn’t necessary, and that’s why Pelosi/McConnell never pushed the issue because they deferred to this guy’s judgment? I’m too lazy to look it up.

Edit: Stopped being lazy and looked it up. Yep, same guy.

Why do you lie? It was half a million. You can look it up. Don't put words in my mouth.

My "guess" was an educated one, based on who was in charge of our government, and the competence of his administration. You pretty much said no way we even get close to that number. Apparently my judgement, or "guess" in your words, is a lot better than yours. You actually believed that this guy couldn't cause any damage to this country. You believed his administration would be somewhat competent. For some odd reason. Despite what you could see with your own eyes.

Just did a back of the envelope calculation of what we have saved during the 9 months of the Plague in gas, eating out, etc.

$25k.

I hope this lasts forever.

McConnell blocked the proposal to change relief payments to $2000 for the COVID relief portion of the omnibus bill. It's not officially dead, but he's personally delayed it. Mitch says, "You're welcome, KY. I saved you from the trouble of having to know what to do with that money."*

With 2 little kids, we were already on a strictly take-out only diet, so no real change for us there. We typically spend $15-$20k on travel though (90% of which is plane tickets to visit our ridiculously dispersed parents and siblings: Seattle, Portland (OR), Pasadena, Dallas, Rochester (NY), and Sydney). That money went right to our balance sheet this year - but I would much rather have that time with family.

So you see that it was ok to sacrifice over 1,200 of your citizens for the benefit of the rest, then. Good to know that it's ok to let people just die for the sake of the economy.

Thanks for not noticing that you ended up being the most infected state, and the 4th worst death rate- behind only the NE states that were very early in this pandemic. Not doing anything put a massive strain on the health system, and murdered so many citizens. All worth it so that masks were not required.

Time to just go back to ignoring the Dakotas, as you suggest. "Just let people die" should be your state's slogan.

Don't worry, I'm sure you guys will be back to comment on the Dakotas when there is another surge there.

As "the Dude" said, it was the royal "we." I meant as a society, why waste time trying to figure out an order based upon "merit." Get people vaccinated.

It isn't merit it's pragmatism. It's good sense to first vaccinate the people who are most likely to be in spreader situations (medical staff, teachers, food prep) and people in greatest peril (the Olds, the ill). Order can affect the final death toll. That makes it matter.

Minnesota has now vaccinated 40k people. That went quick. Glad we’re getting caught up. I stand by my general criticism from earlier. I think we should have gotten it out earlier. Though, I’m not sure what a week’s difference would have made.
