Honest question, other than in-person learning and in-person drinking/dining in bars and restaurants in a handful of states, what is still "locked-down" in this country? Is the only thing republicans can offer in terms of what STILL needs to be done to put the nail in the coffin of coronavirus "end the lockdown?" Some republican representative repeated it for the billionth time when asked about Biden's covid-relief bill by some NPR talking head. How many decades has it been since republicans had a new thought or a useful idea? 3? 4? More?

They need to burn those worthless masks. Because the masks never did anything (see Trollbot for info).

Any sort of restriction is being called a "lockdown" by the politicians who want to make headlines, retweeted, or whatever, with their anti-education constituents (who, ironically, have grabbed onto the in-person learning battle cry.

Do you have real world data that masks work? Would love to see it?

How are hospitals doing?

Are we still trying to flatten the curve? In this together? Stay Home Save Lives? Build Back Stronger?

Yeah they want kids back in school...just dont want to fund making schools safe or well, fund schools in any way.

Schools have been put on starvation mode since Reagan in hopes of getting money funneled to private institutions, charters, etc. You know the schools that get to pick their students. America is a dog eat dog society. It starts with public schools, ends with Wall Street, and covers everything inbetween.

Pretty much the exact same can be said about the military- except for them, the racist party at least stands up and applauds at games. Pretend so show some appreciation- you know, volunteer to keep profits high for someone else.

The city of Ramsey (Minnesota) has voted to stop enforcing Gov. Tim Walz's mask mandate, arguing that the statewide effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is infringing on individuals' constitutional rights.

In 4-3 vote Tuesday night, the City Council approved the measure put forth by council members Ryan Heineman and Chelsee Howell stating that city resources "physical, financial or otherwise shall not be used to enforce any of Gov. Walz's Emergency Executive Orders."

It was not immediately clear what liability the city might face as a result of the vote, which was discouraged by city attorney Joe Langel.

"You can't ignore [the executive order] because you disagree with it," he said before the vote. "It still has the full force of the law."

Mayor Mark Kuzma, who returned to work Monday after recovering from COVID, voted against the measure. "I'm disappointed in the council bringing this resolution," he said before the vote.

Republicans have nothing better to do than to fight the people fighting the virus. I can think of a million things they could be doing that would be more productive. They must be fucking bored.

I just wish we could have them sign a waiver where they don't qualify for public health care dollars if they choose this.

Right now their stupidity taxes us.

In this or another thread, I conjectured it was Nixon who had an idea outside of maximizing profits. Other than that, it was all about capturing money as best as possible- and that very much includes the expansion of the military, since there's a TON of profit in making anything related to the military. Some of the easiest leeching of all time there. Makes the contribution to welfare look like chump change.

Anyway- what does need planned is turning everything back on. Even in the states where they declare everything open, it's going to take a lot of time to have all items get going again. At game one, Texas might get a sell out. Maybe. After that, I bet many will stay home after being anxious worrying about if the people sitting next to you have the vaccine or not.

Same goes to pretty much everything that has gotten hit the hardest- vacation and entertainment. I know we will be waiting for our first cruise until probably 2022. Maybe we will get on an airplane for a long flight later this year- dunno. Having traveled a LOT with other people (we've been on way too many cruises in our lifetimes, but will do more)- I do not trust people. Everyone blames ships when there an outbreak of X, but having seen the insides of how they work, and the data coming from the home port area- every single outbreak is someone going on a cruise who was too sick to travel. All of them. People will lie or stretch the truth to go on a trip. And seeing that there's an entire political party who pans this whole ending process, that means half of the people we travel with will likely not be vaccinated, and will ignore mask requests/laws.

It may not be bad for me, but if these morons cause another shut down for being stupid.... yea, I don't want to sit on a ship for a week in the home port because one person started an outbreak.

I digress- those industries will need some help to make sure their employees keep their heads above water until they are called back to work. And even for them- the ships and planes that have been scrapped when they were an active part of a fleet....

I was a personal fan of cruises as a vacation option. Was really looking forward to a couple of them I had planned in the back of my mind. To be honest, I don't think I will ever get on a cruise again.

Likewise. And I really enjoyed the cruises I went on.

But putting 3000 people in a hefty bag and huffing each others germs for a week. Never again.

Using the Vaccine finder...the closet place I get can get a vaccine right now is Saint Cloud. (the 16th...I can get one sooner if I am willing to drive well over an hour) I obviously have the time to be able to do that but I would have to drive by myself which I believe is frowned upon whilst getting the shot ;^)

Yep, I think my friends are getting it in Big Lake.

Interesting point. My parents (76 & 75) drove themselves 90 minutes each way to get their first shots and they had no issues (NY). I think they have said they'll be able to get the second one closer to home, because more appointments are opening up so quickly.

How are hospitals doing?

Seems like they are doing better since the mask mandate and the vaccine being rolled out with some type of competence

Can't disagree with either of you, but with all of the cruises we have been on, we have seen first hand how they deal with realities. And I've seen some studies that some of the more modern ships have much better air handling than they are given credit for. The specific examples that were studied were the newest ships that we cruise on normally.

Touching food stuff, though....

“Cases” and hospitalizations peeked months ago and have been plummeting since.

And “Seems like they are doing better...”

They are wide open.

Mask usage hasn’t changed one iota if anything it is more lax.

And that’s around the World.

Another who makes a virus political and eliminates themself from any serious discussion.

I think the right thing to do is still go by aged based groups, and drop the age down by ten years once you can’t fill all the vaccination slots with the current ages.

here in Maine we are still supply limited and aren’t having problems finding willing people to vaccinate.

That is what Michigan appears to be doing now. They will be opening it up to people 50+ on March 22nd. It is at least the easiest way to verify if someone is eligible as most (yes, not all) people have a state issued ID that includes birthdate.
I don't like it though, because that means I have to wait for the 30s crowd (as I am just shy of 39...will be 39 by the time my turn comes around). The question for me is how many more outbreaks does my workplace have before than, and how long until it gets to the 30+ age group?

Hospitalizations are dropping nicely. As the US has focused on those most vulnerable, those most likely to end up admitted are now less likely to contract it at all and much much much less likely to have a severe case. This is spectacularly good news.
