Cornell @ RPI, Saturday 1/19/2013

Re: Cornell @ RPI, Saturday 1/19/2013

Oh man, does this feel good...I knew this team was better than their record.

I think Appert loves Kasdorf :)

John, not only does Kasdorf make big saves when his team needs him to, I also think that he has a spidey-sense to slow the game down. At times, (especially last night) the game gets hectic and back and forth action for both teams, and there were times that Kasdorf covered the puck to slow down the pace, let his team regroup, and take the faceoffs to try to get out of trouble. This leads to RPI not frantically trying to get the puck out of the zone, where they often get in trouble. I can't remeber a recent RPI goaltender who had this ability (Laing maybe?) The late Nathan Marsters also comes to mind, but he was nowhere close to Kasdorf in terms of this.

Re: Cornell @ RPI, Saturday 1/19/2013

I totally forgot that Marsters was no longer among us. He was pretty **** good. And now that I read about the story of his death, it all comes back to me. TERRIBLY sad.

OK, reverse the negative...I was returning to a local parking garage today after about four appointments, and one of the vehicles I ambled past had an RPI bullet sticker on it. Always gives me the tinglies when I see a car with one of those on it!

Taking another look at the second Cornell goal, and also reading the rules for offsides (rule 86 in the national rule book, page 77), it happens around 0:52:

This is a good non-call by the linesmen, and I have no issue with this being called a good goal (aside from personal preference that it wasn't my team that scored, but who really cares about that).

It looks like it was the right call....from my seat I thought he was wayyyyyyy offsides, maybe not.

Possibly the only thing that COULD have happened was that although the skater's foot had the line, it very well could have been lifted from the ice because of his stride (I've seen it called before, and the linesman would have the best angle for something like that). It certainly wasn't blatant enough for me to notice on the live stream.

Have to agree with that-live it looked a step offsides-on the replay watching it a few times it was at most questionable and probably the right call.
