Cornell & Colgate @ RPI & Union (2/3, 2/4)

Re: Cornell & Colgate @ RPI & Union (2/3, 2/4)

I want wins a bad as everyone else, particularly for this group of kids, but if we play anything like we played against Clarkson I'll be a happy guy. I still cannot believe that we lost that game. It was a full 60 min and I thought we controlled the play, were able to break out of our end easily, hemmed them in their end, had multiple great scoring opportunities, etc. I am looking at that game as one of those 1-offs where you dominate the game but the stars line against you and you lose. I'll tell you this - we play like we did on Saturady night, and this record reverses itself.

You are right on all with your assessment. The Clarkson game was a very good contest and one the Engineers could easily have won. They didn't and that is just the way this season is going. It looks a lot like Colgate last year.
The big problem is, and has been all season, the offense. Nobody has stepped up to be the Go-To guy so far. The seniors have been mostly disappointing this season, though improved play from that class has been a main reason for the current good streak. This team looks a lot like the teams in the early Appert years. They play hard and usually play well defensively, but they exhibit very little skill on offense and can't finish. Despite all the hype around Laliberte, and some of the other frosh, they are still freshmen and they have just not produced a lot yet. We can hope that changes with the addition of the new recruits next season, but this year is what it is. This team has to hope to win 2-1 most nights.
That said, if they continue to put forth efforts similar to the last 3 weekends they will be fun to watch and could scare some teams in the playoffs.
LGR!

If the Union box office tells you that they will put tickets on sale at 4:00, get there at 2:00. They lie. I have been shutout of standing room for RPI-Union tickets a couple of times because they start selling well before the announced time. If I want to attend a game in that seedy, cozy little shack I get tickets early. Of course, it is only a problem for RPI and Cornell games, because they seldom come close to a sellout for other games despite having a very good team the past five years.

We decided to cancel cable TV (Comcast = GRRR!) but we live in a funky area where, unless I install a 10-foot rotating rooftop antenna, we can only get ABC broadcast TV with the rabbit ears. Anyone know if there will be a live internet video feed available somewhere? (I could search later if necessary, thought I'd ask here first....)

Probably B2... either that, or go to a bar and watch it.

Looking more and more like that is what we will be doing. We have a lovely place not far from here and already asked if they would be sure to have the game on one of their big screens.

I want to see/hear/hear about RPI putting forth a 130 minute effort this weekend!

I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I want to see both games ending in ties this weekend.

With rounding, it just means we need to wait til the final 15 seconds of overtime each night to score. Piece of cake.

Oh no? If the Colgate game sells out tonight, and it well might, that would mean four sellouts this month alone... Dartmouth (200 over capacity), RPI (50 over capacity), Colgate, Cornell on Saturday. And the two home games last weekend got 2000 and 2060... pretty close to being sold out.

Union lines are out - and so is Troy Grosenick. 18 year old freshman Colin Stevens, who hasn't played since December, gets the nod. Grosenick, he of the 1.58 GAA and .940 save %, is listed as the third goalie. He sustained a lower body injury in practice this week. Tough task for Stevens considering the opponents and the fact he hasn't seen game action in 5 weeks. He's impressed in limited action (2.40, .910) but will be up against it tonight.

The coaching staff is very high on Stevens, just a question of whether he is ready for prime time. He obviously was not last time out v. Denver. Interesting that Ciampini is in on the second line and Sullivan sits for a second straight game.

I'd rather not say 120 minutes, have one game go into overtime, and then see the team slack off for a couple minutes and hand the other team two goals.

I want to see the team play hard the entire game. Win, lose, or tie.

Lots of 9's in one of those lines... :D

I'm not surprised that JL is sitting... he just hasn't been performing. I realize that OJHL to NCAA is a HUGE jump and I probably couldn't do any better, but to go from a goal a game to nada...

JL never played in the OJHL. :p

Ooh, you're finally selling out that dump for more than just RPI and Cornell! Cookie?

It's not impressive, because we'd sell out that thimble every night if we played there.

You know what is impressive though? We're in first place (and you're in last place).

Also, in the three games against RPI this year, we've won all three and outscored RPI 15-4 in the process.

Yes these is something to be said about paying to sit in a corner and looking around beams....
