I'm too lazy to research it and can't remember how the topic was relevant, but in one of my fire science classes I ended up seeing a study that determined that routine police patrol was no more effective from a cost or any other standpoint at preventing crime than having engine companies patrolling city streets as a means to prevent fires.

As much as I hate cops, yes even I believe we need a network of law enforcement in the nation.

Obviously it is in urgent need of massive reform. First of all, one, statewide police department is all you get. It gets deployed as needed, so some areas will obviously have more cops and some fewer. Police almost exclusively derive their power from the central authority of the state. Having on state police standardizes training and all other protocol. Your one other agency concerned with law enforcement in the state is the watchdog. An independent agency with a ton of direct civilian oversight to police the police.

Second, people need to rethink the role of policing in everyday society. Police don't prevent crime for the most part. We know that education and opportunity prevents most crime. Hell some studies even wondered if getting rid of lead paint has more effect on lowering crime than anything the police do. Police need to migrate mostly to an investigatory role. Fact is, cops don't solve most of the crime they don't prevent. We need to do better.

We would also increase by about a billion percent efforts to make police departments reflect the community they work in from as many demographic touchpoints as possible.

We got a long ways to go people.

Their concern has been noted and logged. I am sure they will find they acted "against the better nature of the Guard" and will apologize even though the damage has been done. Nice job you ****ing fascist dicks.

And no I will not show respect to them...I dont care if they are the National Guard they acted like an occupying force...they treated their own citizens like they do insurgent terrorists. **** them and **** who ever gave them the order and **** anyone who doesnt kick them out. I can make light of a lot of things...but watching the video of the helicopter flying low and how it affected the people on the ground proves the military cant be trusted to do the right thing if it means contravening even an immoral order. **** them.
