Computer help: Can't uninstall a program

Eagles

Seguin!
I am trying to uninstall a trial program I use for Photoshop, Topaz Adjust, because I am trying to install a newer version of it. However when I can't install the new version because I have the old version. When I try to delete the old Topaz it says There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

So now I have no access to the program via Photoshop and I can't uninstall it or reinstall it. Any ideas?

Re: Computer help: Can't uninstall a program

I assume you are getting an error code. If it is 1723, I believe this link will explain how to fix your problem. If you are getting a different error code, what is it?

There is no error code number, its just the info that I posted. But what you posted seems to make sense, I will give it a try.

Re: Computer help: Can't uninstall a program

That told me to download the Windows Installer which I did. However it said there wasnt enough storage to install. Mhmm...

Re: Computer help: Can't uninstall a program

I'm not sure why this link isn't working. It is inly 2.5 MB and I have 2.29 GB remaining on my computer. When I try to run the file it says " Not enough storage is available to process this command."

Any ideas what to do?

Re: Computer help: Can't uninstall a program

If you have Norton AntiVirus installed, that might be part of the problem. The only solution I've seen involves editing the registry. If you don't have Norton, I'm not sure.

You do realize this whole "I'm Mr. Helpful" bit is going to ruin your reputation?

I havent had Norton for about 6 months. What about using last known good configuration?

I've had the same problem with Norton, so I switched but the Norton uninstall didn't work and now I'm in the catch 22 of not being able to upgrade the new software or delete the Norton because each is blocking the other...if I had more time I could probably solve it but so far I just tolerate it.

Those things never seem to work, though it's worth a try.:p

Computers are stupid. I suggest you throw it out the nearest window and buy a new one.

Re: Computer help: Can't uninstall a program

Here's the latest update: I downloaded Revo Uninstaller and it supposedly removed all of the files that I was unable to. But when I go to into my Add/Remove programs files Topaz is still there. However the button to click uninstall doesn't appear. When I search for files that contain the word Topaz nothing is found. To top if off I am unable to download the new program because it says its still installed.

What to do (besides throwing my computer out of a window that may or not may not be open :) )?

I had a similar problem with a different program not too long ago. I ended up Googling, "[Topaz] uninstall error" or something like that and found a link that exactly described my problem along with a fixit solution that didn't require any regedit monkey business nor reverting to a prior config.

There are also message boards out there offering free advice and the mods often provide good instruction on how to correct your issue. You might surprised much info exists out there regarding pretty much every computer error under the sun.
