Coming to Manchester? Places to eat, things to do...

Re: Coming to Manchester? Places to eat, things to do...

I have to redefine my New Year's Eve. I'm 29, and got drunk on Manhattan's at Firefly. **** good Manhattan there.

Hehe. I'm 28 and I really enjoy them. Prefer Makers or Knob Creek. I'll have to check out Firefly.

To me, old man drinks are a classification for traditional drinks like Whiskey Sours, Sidecars, CC & Ginger, etc. There's even a book (link)!

Just my opinion, but living in MachVegas:

Agree on XO - overrated
Firefly's - have always had good luck there
Ignite and Hooked - two restaurants right next to each other same owner - haven't eaten at Ignite, but I have like Hooked the couple of times I have been there.
Dos Amigos - good place to stop in for a quick meal
There is Portland Pie Pizza place just a couple of blocks down from the Verizon Center.
For trendy pizza at higher prices - 900 degrees
The Farm for a decent meal - nothing fancy, the pulled pork is good, they have the same thin crust pizza as 900 degrees, but a good deal cheaper.

And the Chop House? You're a hockey fan :) save your money and get a steak and cheese at Nadeau's on the West Side, eh.

I'll go for the scotch on the rocks. Cheeseburger subs at Karl's on the quad (I think he spelled it with a K.

FYI to our Colorado travelers, if you're in town for the weekend, keep in mind that the coast is inside an hour away due East. If you haven't been to the Atlantic, it's an easy ride down 101....straight shot within an hour. I don't know ManchVegas, but I do know Portsmouth!

...and an even closer one adjacent to the millyard! Not sure the street, but in the same parking lot as Golds Gym.

Canal St. That's the one I used to go to when I lived there.

Go get yourselves some lobster rolls!

Re: Coming to Manchester? Places to eat, things to do...

I have been to the Chophouse many times. Multiple times for dinner and once I held a birthday party for my wife there in one of the private rooms downstairs.

Simply put, this steak house is awesome and competes with some of the finest steak houses I have been too across the country. Its food is on a level (as evidenced by the price) by itself in Manchester. Nothing comes close.

I highly recommend it.

OK I did a little research...
When I first posted, I had written that a place that is not to be missed is C.R. Sparks, but then I thought about it and realized that it might not be there any more. And it isn't. It WAS THE VERY best restaurant that I had been to in New England, and I have been to a lot of 5 star places (one in NE).

C.R. Sparks is closed. BUT... the owner opened up the Hanover Street Chophouse and has the C.R. Sparks lunch menu and waitstaff, and I would bet that they have a lot of the same sauces for the dinner entrees and possibly the same chefs.

I would highly recommend the Chophouse, if you cannot get a dinner reservation, go for lunch and have something more special than a burger.

or, if you want 80cent beers and to hang out with some real scary folks, as I said... Mike's Pub n Grub and Flo's, are right behind the Verizon Wireless Center.... (there is no way that the Motel Caswell has ANYTHING on these places)

For the DU and Badger fans coming out our way you may as well take the 25 minute drive to Lowell. Urban National Park. Trolleys and plenty of places to have adult beverages!

I don't think anyone asked this, what's the best place to park for the VWA? I want to park once and then walk to all the destinations for the night.

You can find free on street parking on a number of side roads off of Elm street. The Center of NH also has a paid garage across the street from the VWA.
