Coming to Duluth??

Re: Coming to Duluth??

Plus I will add that the name of this thread is "Coming to Duluth?" And not "Staying in Duluth?" If I was doing the latter, I might be tempted in checking out other eateries.

You're kidding me, right?

SO VERY SORRY I GOT THE SYNTAX WRONG. I will never promote local eateries in town again.

Yesterday: Came to Duluth, saw Gophers win :D , returned to Twin Cities.

Tomorrow: will drive to Duluth, watch title game, return to Twin Cities.

Given the 2 1/2 hour drive time each way, there not much time to go check out places to eat.

Well, given that gas is at $3.65 a gallon and it is a 300 mile round trip, I hazard you could have stayed at the Motel 6 for two nights and dined at one of Duluth's finer establishments on multiple occasions and NOT spent as much money as you would have on gas. Plus, your carbon footprint would have been considerably smaller! :p

Re: Coming to Duluth??

Just wait until you get to Amsoil to eat. You could start your own annual Frozen Four arena food review blog or something.
Actually the pizza is pretty good. A little pricy -- but then again, what arena food isn't -- but pretty good. And they're only charge $2 for a bottle of water (compared to $3.50 or $4.00 at Ridder), which I can then refill at a drinking fountain.

300 miles for the extra trip = 1 tank of gas = $40. Plus I'm sleeping in my own bed and not paying for extra meals out (my only stops in either direction were rest areas). I think I'm coming out ahead on this one.

Re: Coming to Duluth??

Any plans for pre-Championship gathering today? Binny - Are you going? We were at Grandma's around 4 Friday - plane from Chicago was delayed a bit as Air Force 1 was at O'Hare. We taxied so far around I was thinking we were just driving the plane to Duluth.
Headed now for a workout along the lake, but would love to meet for a cold refreshment before the puck drops.

Re: Coming to Duluth??

In and out twice unscathed. :)

Very nice job by host UMD. Very impressed with the new arena, a beautiful facility.

Re: Coming to Duluth??

Can't speak for anyone else but I had a great time meeting up with long time friends . . . ARM, crazydave. Also totally enjoyed all of the Wisconsin fans at Grandma's restaurant before both games . . . a few BC fans and Gopher fans in the mix as well.

I hope that all of you that came to Duluth for the first time enjoyed the great hockey and a little hospitality.

Hope to see everyone again . . .

Re: Coming to Duluth??

binnyrus, I agree that the fan networking is one of the best parts of the Frozen Four. I enjoyed getting to catch up with you and hope that no matter where your future takes you, women's hockey is able to retain one of its most loyal fans. I didn't get to meet as many people as I'd have liked outside of UM fans, but over the course of the season, it was great to chat with people like DC, dhmn, Ancient One, and Hux. As for Gopher fans, maybe I'll get to see a couple of you today yet.

Thanks Duluth -- a great event that I'll always remember.

Yeah, it certainly was a great event. The city was fantastic, with lots of cool things to do in and around Duluth. There were certainly plenty of places to gather and eat. The arena was outstanding, especially friendly for photographers, with great lighting and sight lines. And the glass was clean as a whistle...something you don't see in many barns.

Re: Coming to Duluth??

As a Gopher parent, I wanted to thank Duluth for being a fine host this weekend.

Your arena is a top notch facility and the weather combined with the venue (and the Gophs success)
and proximity of everything made it a weekend we'll remember forever.

I was also impressed with Duluth and the facilities, as well as the people in town who made us all feel welcome! Great weekend!

Re: Coming to Duluth??

Dear Duluth-

Thanks for having us. Everyone we met and spoke to us was pleasant and Northlands hospitable, something we greatly appreciated. We also love your new arena, a fabulous hockey building. And the Duluth Grill, we definitely thought the Duluth Grill was well worth the trip.

See you next season.
