College Hockey stats website

Hey all - I knew this day was going to come some day. Collegehockeystats.net is going to stop updating next season. This is the number one site I use for stats, and looking stuff up as to leagues, historical references etc. not to mention live scores for games. It was such a wonderful tool. I assume it was a labor of love for someone and I’m glad we had it this long.

can someone let me know what a comparable tool would be? For those of you that don’t use it, what do you use?

I've always used collegehockeystats. USCHO has something that I've always found to be less trustworthy. My next stop would be the conference sites, but I've never tried to look at those from a national perspective. I wonder if someone is going to have a useful scoreboard. Sigh. I feel like I've received news that a close friend is terminally ill.

I'll be honest I actually have never used collegehockeystats. I've always used collegehockeyinc: https://collegehockeyinc.com/stats/filters21.php

Nothing at all against collegehockeystats, it was just a matter of habit.

Weirdly, I can't link to their women's stats from there (even if I add the "w" into the url) -- however you can access the women's data via the conferences' advanced stats links (says Hockey East but includes all conferences): http://hockeyeastonline.com/stats/filtersw21.php

Grant, thanks for the info.

I’ve never been to that site before. I’m glad women’s national stats will still exist. But we’re still losing functionality when collegehockeystats stops updating, sadly, as far as rosters and league groupings etc. being all in one place at least as far as I can tell. Also we should not be having to go to Hockey East’s website to access this (or WCHA’s).

College Hockey Inc appears to be almost entirely funded by USA Hockey. $600k contribution from them per a recent 990 I just googled. But the College Hockey Inc website only talks about men’s hockey. Other than that it seems very similar to college hockey stats. It seems like College Hockey Inc should have a replica site for the women, especially since all the data is out there and just needs to be organized on one site. College Hockey Inc’s website says the NHL gives USA Hockey the money for this which is maybe an excuse why it’s guys only, but with the Industry Growth Fund or whatever it is the NHL has, maybe they can allocate some $$ to get a website for the women?

It’s just frustrating, one of the reasons I prefer college hockey to women’s pros is the infrastructure that is in place for college hockey and that includes accessible, quality stats. feels like we are about to take a step backwards.

I never used to care much about CHA’s website but now I think they have to update it to link to the stats format that has College Hockey Inc has for men(and WCHA and Hockey East have for women).

Yes, this is what I had in mind. And I can't even give you rep; all of the foundations of my life are fast disappearing. Giving your post a "like" is too much like Outlook, and after using that all day, the fun is long gone.

Thanks young man. Remember to play your trumpet regularly!

I am here to serve! haha

I do need to break out the ol' brass horn. It's been too long.

Just wondering how the USCHO stats pages are set up and how they get/transfer their information. It was noted on the Clarkson Roundtable that former Knight to Mercyhurst transfer Kristy Pidgeon was the nations 5th leading scorer with 10g and 10A for 20 points in 12 games in the overall Stats page on USCHO. However when one goes to the Mercyhurst stats page on USCHO she is listed as having 5G and 5A for 10 Points. Wonder how many other anomalies such as this exist in the statistics on USCHO?

This happened a few years ago with the UND transfers as well, doubling up the points. I can’t answer your question beyond that. It sure is unfortunate.

As for Pidgeon, she’s having a nice season at Hurst, first line or second line, she didn’t play yesterday though and I hope she’s back soon!

If you all want to post any anomalies or mistakes you find, I'm happy to pass them on to the web folks. I know that the whole thing is a work in progress this year, but I find women's stuff doesn't tend to get fixed unless explicitly pointed out.

So why exactly did collegehockeystats.net shut down? I guess I really don't understand or maybe I missed the story of what happened to cause it to suddenly shut down after 22 years of fantastic operation. I used to really enjoy following friends, former teammates, national team players, and many of my favorite programs in general with what was a really great and easy to use website. There was no site that could match it in terms of quality and accuracy. This year I haven't been able to follow the game I love nearly as well. Is there any way to resurrect it somehow, or is there a new or comparable website where all college games and stats can be found for both women's and men's hockey? I'll go ahead and blame COVID for this!

No idea, but my guess is that it is similar to most things associated with college hockey and it is somebody's labor of love. For example, Brian Schulz used to travel the country on his own dime to broadcast the USCHO Women's Game of the Week. Even though it was audio only, Brian put a lot of time and effort into it and created a quality product, so it left a hole when his life evolved to such a point that it was no longer possible for him to continue doing it. Another example is the WCHODR rankings that Robin Lock of St. Lawrence compiled. That one seems to not have been updated since pre-Covid action.

The conference websites also discontinued “advanced stats” for 21-22 season.

For just one example I tried to look up how many penalties each team has taken (in conference and national) which would have been simple in advance stats. I think now you have to go to each team’s website to gather that info.
