Re: College Football 2016-17: Destination Tampa

Ahem.

10. Notre Dame

Though personally I don't see it. Too many question marks. This season cries out as 9-4 to me.

Should be a good Week 3 matchup. Wish we had some prep besides Furman going into ND, but thems the breaks when Alabama cancels because they won't go on the road.

It was last year. We will see this year. Theoretically, it should be better. Top 5 seems realistic. But they also showed some big holes as the season progressed, some were addressed before the bowl game, but there's still a lot of work to really be that good.

Qb will be interesting. Talent is there, no question, but experience is not. OSU has had brief success with very limited experience, but that's pretty rare. What will help whoever that is the most is a really strong running game- something we've not REALLY had for a very long time. The kind of running that beats up the line enough that their rush effectiveness is muted substantially. That will help the lack of experience more than anything, I think.

Probably a repeat of last year for M; 9-3 or 10-2 and a better bowl than they deserve. Either revenge in EL against MSU, or shock tOSU in Columbus for the first time since 2000. Worst case scenario, drop both and crapsie against either Iowa or Wisconsin.

I'm going with the latter. Michigan at #7 in the preseason is laughable - chalk it up to the "Harbaugh effect" and move on to playing the actual games. Even my dad, the grad, would agree with all of this.

Sucks! :D

Re: College Football 2016-17: Destination Tampa

Cal and Hawaii isn't too exciting so far.

NDSU and Charleston Southern play tomorrow. #1 vs #7 FCS in Fargo. Looking at the rest of NDSU's schedule, they're on ESPN2 against Iowa. Iowa-Iowa St is only on BTN the week before.

Re: College Football 2016-17: Destination Tampa

Iowa is playing NDSU? That's a stupid, stupid game to schedule.

Either your win and no one gives a shot or you lose everything.

I was really surprised they did. I'm really surprised anyone schedules NDSU anymore. The FBS teams they've played haven't been world beaters, but they're 8-3 all time and five in a row, with 7 of the 11 against P5 schools.

Looks like the only FBS games they have coming up though are Iowa, Oregon in 2020 and Colorado in 2024. Big Ten no-FCS rule means they won't be playing Iowa or Minnesota anytime soon, either.

But, it should be a fun game to watch.

Hawaii is terrible. Combining travel and a noon start time in Ann Arbor next week, that game should be over six minutes in.

Plus NDSU fans will puke on and destroy everything in their path. They'll probably have to declare Iowa City a disaster area and contact FEMA before the game even starts.

Re: College Football 2016-17: Destination Tampa

Two random, unrelated points:

- Does playing at Lambeau have that much of a "cool" factor for LSU and Wisconsin? Really trying to figure out how Wisconsin actually got LSU to go on the road here. Also curious if Wisconsin is taking a financial hit vs holding the game at Camp Randall. They both hold ~80,000 so curious how much they're losing on concessions and whatnot.

- Looking at Week 2, there does not seem to be a single Top 25 Matchup. Other than the "Battle at Bristol" sideshow, there isn't a single game worth watching

Re: College Football 2016-17: Destination Tampa

They did a "neutral home and home." I think LSU didn't want to go to Camp Randall so they settled on Lambeau. LSU's "home game" was in Houston.

IIRC, Wisconsin paid 3 million or so to have the game at Lambeau. It will be an insane tailgate; LSU fans are a fun group.

It was scheduled years ago of course, but Iowa's AD played QB for the Bison.

NDSU doesn't scare me very much; they try playing Iowa football but do so with far less talent and depth. I expect Iowa to win by 2 or more scores unless they're battered with injuries. There will be a lot of Bison fans in Iowa City though, the game is virtually a sellout. Should be a fun day.

This almost guarantees it will come down to the wire now.
