College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

Just curious, did Minnesota fans embrace the hire?

At first, I'd say no, violently.

Then when they learned about his accomplishments and what he's doing behind the scenes to clean up after Hurricane Brewster they liked him. A lot. He has players shoveling sh*t if they screw up in class or practice. Literally.

What's funny about Brewster is I thought he was turning them around a few years back. Think the Gophs were like 7-1 and then lost a heartbreaking game to Northwestern. Haven't been the same since.

I was hoodwinked as well. When I hear stories about how the team acts behind the scenes now? I truly understand the damage that man did. He let the inmates run the asylum. No discipline. No development. No respect.

And we get to listen to Brew-ha-ha blather on during this week's 'queens-Chiefs Luck Bowl.

I actually brought this up earlier this week, since Michigan seems to be in the same situation this year. When they got off to that start, they did so with a crazy positive turnover differential(and a schedule that would have made Bret Bielema blush). When I pointed out they were due for a pretty serious course correction, I got a lot of "No way man, they like, practice having the other team throw the ball at them. This guy has got things figured out." Turnovers can mask an untalented defense for a while, but it doesn't fix an untalented defense. Brewster's luck ran out pretty quickly and it was a pretty quick trip downhill from there.

Looks like the BCS has found a way to keep Boise and other undesirables out.

BCS to lift 2 team conference limit

Where in that article does it say the limit will be lifted?

Also, it would have no effect on the top-ranked non-BCS conference team unless that stipulation, which is not mentioned in the article, was also altered.

IMO, they're also planning on bringing in the Cotton Bowl the next time around to make Jerry happy, which makes 12 bids available. Maybe punish the Fiesta by removing them from the title game rotation.

The first sentence?
The Bowl Championship Series’ two-team per conference limit could be up for discussion as the BCS nears another round of television negotiations.
What are they going to discuss? Limiting conferences to one? No, they're going to discuss either going to three teams or removing a limit altogether.

Who besides the SEC and Big Ten are going to vote for going to 3? The ACC and Big East can't even get two, the PAC-12 knows that they're going to get the shaft because of East coast bias (Stanford would have been passed over last year if they weren't required to be chosen), and the Big 12-3 will be thrilled if OU and Texas can get in at the same time with what's left to them.

"Up for discussion" doesn't mean it will/won't happen. It just means that it's a stupid idea that'll be debated. See also: the NFL's 18 game schedule (which is also stupid).

The 18-game NFL schedule was a bargaining ploy by the owners so they could look magnanimous by giving it up in negotiations.

Again, just because they are discussing the limit doesn't necessarily mean it's GOING to happen, but that's what they're going to discuss. They aren't going to discuss the limit with the intention of making it tighter...

As for who will vote for it, the Pac-12 will probably vote for it (that could help them attract OU/UT if the time ever comes) and they dream of getting USC, Oregon and Stanford into BCS games. The ACC is going to vote against it, but who knows if the Big East and/or Big XII-? will be viable conferences whenever this comes up. The SEC may wait until the Big East dissolves/merges with the Big XII-? and then the vote is 3-2.

But if it does get pushed through, you'll never see Boise or anyone else like them again. It's the big boys locking the door and throwing away the key.

They still have the exemption for the top non-BCSAQ team. It might be easy to get rid of that, but if they do Congress steps in and starts making the rules (which nobody wants). The door will be closed, but every few years Boise might kick it down. Might.

Thanks for the info. I obviously didn't pay that much attention to them, just the end results really. I'm actually a Michigan football fan and I'm pretty pleased with how they look so far under Hoke considering he has Rodriguez' players.

While it wouldn't surprise me one iota to see the two team limit lifted, nothing in that article says it will be which is what the original post stated. The original comments about "keeping Boise and other undesirables out" doesn't make any sense either as altering the conference limit alone wouldn't affect the top non-BCS conference team one bit. That's all.

Re: College Football 2011: Enough of realignment and scandals. Gimme Footbaw!

As the death march toward four 16-team conferences and 6 BCS games continues, the limit will have to be lifted - they're not going to have 8 BCS teams and 4 non-BCS teams in the BCS. So, it will definitely come under discussion along the way.

I think if we get to 4x16 (and hopefully we never will) there will be a playoff (and hopefully there never will be).

As we get farther from the days when the Bowl Games meant anything more than an ESPN paycheck, it will be easier and easier to just have a post-season with the four conference title games being the first round.
