Colgate 2025-26

he he he… there must not be much to say after tonight’s 4-1 drubbing since no one has said anything on here.

There was no offense.
There was no defense.
Our goalie kept it closer than it ever should have been, as it was a shooting gallery most of the night.

From here on out, every night is potentially the final night of our season. Every night is potentially each senior’s final night of their Colgate career.

On the plus side, we win eight straight games and we are the National Champions!!

I thought their PP goal at the end of the 2nd period was a killer. If we get out 1-1 after 2 periods it would have been interesting.
Iowa - I agree a very physical game. Lots of hitting after the whistle. It looked to me that Dartmouth was going after Neumeier in particular.

Dartmouth is better, but we’re still alive. Will need a great game by our goaltender, assuming it will be Dyck again tonight.

Just eight !

Clarkson Doug must be happy

Clarkson Doug is very happy after last night.
We are both very happy with Harvard’s win, too.

Clarkson Doug and I have our tickets for Lake Placid ECACs and Las Vegas NCAAs. We also have ‘em for Salt Lake City NHL and Henderson (Nev.) AHL, too. Alaska Mike, Dartmouth Doug and Cornell Greg will join us for the mid-April adventure.

IBT, thanks for the play-by-play. For us oldsters it's the next best thing to being there. Keep it up!

Thanks, ColSkate65. I enjoy making the updates, but only when they aren’t actually playing. And it is much easier when I am solo, like this weekend. When I am with friends, I want to be ‘in the moment’ with them. I also wish that I had played hockey, so that I could give better analysis. But I try to just state what I see for those that aren’t watching on ESPN PPV.

Reid Dyck (Colgate) and Emmett Croteau (Dartmouth) are in nets again tonight.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

There is plenty of time now to review the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of what was the 2025-26 Colgate season. Thanks to the ‘Gate players, the visible staff, the invisible behind-the-scenes staff, the families and my friends for another fun season overall.

‘Night from Hanover.

My 2025-26 season postmortem:

Year 3 of the Mike Harder era ended just like Year 2 and Year 1, with Colgate getting swept in the ECAC Quarterfinal round. But unlike the first 2 seasons, Colgate finally earned its first playoff win in the Harder era, due to the team finishing 7th in the regular season - unfortunately this was a regression from the previous two campaigns.

Yes, this season felt like a step back, and the won-loss record clearly indicates this. The start of the season did look promising though, as we scheduled 2025 NCAA Tournament participants Boston University, Maine, and Michigan State - all on the road! We earned a tie in the 2nd BU game and split the series with Maine, so things were looking good in late October. But after getting swept at home by RIT, clearly there was a storm cloud on the horizon. It only got bigger when we got swept by Dartmouth and Harvard in November.

Then in the 2nd half of the season, we found ourselves looking putrid on Fridays only to look great on Saturdays. I wonder if our success on Saturdays was due to our ECAC opponent having been worn down by Cornell the night before? Also of note, we had two games this season where we scored 5 goals and lost. (November 8 at Harvard and February 13 at Union). That is unacceptable.

Lastly, I wasn't entirely sold on Reid Dyck getting the majority of the goaltending minutes this season. Clearly the coaching staff saw something in him that said "start him over Andrew Takacs". But being a first year, he was logging experience and I think he'll only get better next year. Remember in 2018-19 we had a first year goaltender start every game - it was either Mitch Benson or Andrew Farrier. Then in 2019-20, both Benson and Farrier improved in both save percentage and goals against average, with each notching 2 shutouts. And I'm sure Benson getting a lot of minutes as a freshmen helped with his phenomenal play as a senior in 2022.

Our attention turns to the 2026-27 season now. Can we bounce back from 2025-26? I sure hope so.

A sad ending to the season. We can only hope for some talented new blood in the frosh class and an improvement on the front line with some big scorers. A sweep of Cornell next season might be a barometer of just how successful we will be in March.

Three straight years of QF losses (2 at home), but this one felt like a step backwards to the Don Vaughan era. We lacked discipline yesterday and it doomed us. It's Harder's first losing season and am hopeful he will get us some solid goaltending - for starters. Decosse needs to do the same. Worthy shoutout to Clarkson, what a masterful series win to knock off Qpac on their home ice, absolutely love it. Sincerest appreciation to the Seniors for choosing amazing Colgate.
