Colgate 2025-26

Reid Dyck led NPI#39 Colgate onto the ice for the pre-game warmup tonight. Jakob Hrbecek did the same for NCI#29 RIT. Andrew Takacs and Nick Haas are also dressed for ‘Gate.

Less than one minute in… Colgate penalty (slashing). Killed.

RIT penalty (slashing). Killed.

Two Media Timeouts per period due to SNY television.

Simon LaBelle might be our fastest player. Definitely turned up the wick tonight.

Ryan Sullivan with a beautiful team goal (from Bobby Metz). RIT goalie not happy with himself. RIT challenged play for offsides. Good goal.

7:24 remaining and RIT scored on a totally screened Reid Dyck. Colgate challenges for goaltender interference. Good goal. 1-1.

Colgate penalty (contact to the head). Killed.

RIT 13, Colgate 9, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, RIT 1, score after one.

Like last night, pretty even period (and we know how that worked out last night).

Parents/Family Weekend crowds have been good for the women and the men. The women are in a bit of a free-fall. Up 3-0 on Yale this afternoon and they list 5-4 in OT.

It is getting chippy.

Colgate penalty (high-sticking). And 24 seconds remaining in it, RIT penalty (holding). Colgate penalty killed. RIT penalty killed.

Colgate penalty (cross-checking). And RIT with the PPG.

RIT penalty (tripping). Killed.
Off-setting minor penalties to wrap-up period two. RIT slashing. Colgate roughing.

RIT 20, Colgate 16, SOG after two.
RIT 2, Colgate 1, score after two.

RIT penalty (boarding). This is a HUGE PP for us. Killed.

11:44 remaining in the third period. RIT is doing what they have to do to preserve the lead.

Colgate penalty (cross-checking). Killed.
Colgate penalty (cross-checking). Killed.
That is still four minutes when we were forced to play defense.
RIT penalty. Colgate pulls Dyck. And RIT scored.
And another RIT ENG.

Colgate 29, RIT 27, final SOG.
RIT 4, Colgate 1, final score.

IMO we have a lack of any depth of talent at the forward position. There are exceptions of course but many of the upperclassmen have simply not improved, or even regressed, over the past 1-2 years...and I don't see much talent coming next year unless we dig deeper into the major junior pool...after a decent 1-2-1 start on the road against BU and Maine we've managed to wreck any real chance of hope for the NPI top 20 or so this year...and it has been a decade since this program was more than 3 games over .500 for any season...no wonder Neumeier has to play 28 minutes a game...we miss Nagel, but hockey is the ultimate team game and I am hard pressed to name any forward tonight who looked like a top tier college hockey player...and frankly, being 6'5" or 6'6" shouldn't guarantee you any time at the forward position if you can't score goals and can't control your conduct...I'd like to see Niedemeyer play, either forward or on defense...back to the drawing board...

OUCH! Swept at home by RIT! No disrespect to that program but they play in Atlantic Hockey, a team that (with one exception) sends only 1 team to the NCAA tournament every season.

This is very concerning. It's early in the season and there's still a lot of time to turn it around but if we're on the wrong side of the NPI cutoff line come March, I'll be looking at these past 2 games on the schedule.

What certainly is concerning is scoring only 10 even strength goals in 8 games...it's also one thing to lose, yet outplaying and outchancing your opponent...yet here RIT did outplay us in game #1 and IMO game #2 was an even game...

What’s even more frustrating is that in 5 of the 8 games our goaltenders have only allowed 2 goals in regulation. On most nights we should be able to win if we can get 3 goals.

Three bits of good news:

1) Plenty of things for the coaching staff to talk to the players about.
2) Dyck could be legit.
3) Undefeated in league play!

Not much to talk about from last night apparently. Third game in a row getting just 1 goal. Tough to win that way.

A very frustrating loss yesterday evening.

During the 1st period, Dartmouth had a 1-on-3 entering our offensive zone. Their 1 player with the puck, a defenseman, found a way to get through ALL THREE of our skaters and go in alone on our goaltender, scoring a goal (which made it 2-0 Dartmouth at the time).

Remember, it's not how you start, it's how you finish. The 2010-11 and 2022-23 seasons are prime examples of this.

Foley is no ordinary defenseman and will probably appear in the NHL within a few years because of his offensive talent. Bad job by the PKers still

Barb, I am fine. As I left the Class of ‘65 Arena last Saturday, after the home sweep by RIT, I told “Red,” I won’t follow Colgate to Dartmouth and Harvard, I just need a ‘mental health weekend.’ As a ‘Gate fan, who lives 90 minutes away, the RIT games weren’t fun for me. I spend a fair bit of money to follow and support Colgate, but it needs to be enjoyable (or why do it?). Boston and Maine were fun. I watched both games this weekend on ESPN Select and can’t really add to what everyone on here (and Reid Cashman) has said, before and after. This coming weekend, I will go with Endicott Larry on Friday night to the Yale game. And, on Saturday, I will dine with R. Braden Houston before the Brown game to learn more about his playing days in Toronto, New Hampshire and South Africa, pre-Colgate. Thus, I will make my own ‘fun.’ he he he

One would hope that we actually take some positives out of tonight's loss...we'd better...defensive coverage including both physicality and active sticks really needs to improve...offensively much better (they had no choice) and a few guys got off the "schneid" (SP?) tonight...let's hope the secondary scoring continues...must sweep Brown and Yale at home next weekend...

It's become very evident that we really miss legitimate defensive defensemen, notably Bergsland and Irwin...our low save percentage is more a function of this problem than any poor play by our goalies...

GreenCoat, you've just summed up the difference between the DV strategy and the MH strategy in one sentence.
Isiah Norlin and Michael Neumeier are in our 'top five' point-getters after ten games with 7 and 6 points, respectively.
Isiah Norlin and Antonio Fernandez are in our 'top six' goal-scorers after ten games with 2 goals apiece.
You don't get those kinds of numbers (with respect to our offensive output) without charging the offensive zone and having 'fun.'
