Colgate 2025-26

sshablak

It all starts with the goaltending.
Nice October schedule posted if accurate. Boston Univ and Maine will be four tough away games, should give us an idea where we stand. Wondering why of twelve or more recruits only seven are actually coming, anyone know more ? We lost a highly touted goalie but gained another one in six four Dyck, a Bruins draft pick. Carry on...it's been too long with no hockey.

Thanks, Shabby, for officially welcoming in the ‘Gate New Year!

Sadly, Canisius and RIT at home will tell us where we stand as much as Boston & Maine on the (rail) road.

Overall, I am happy with the schedule and will plan on hitting all home games and all non-conference away games.

Maine, Quinnipiac, Cornell and runner-up BU were all in last year’s 16-team NCAA tournament, so that’s pretty good for strength of schedule. I always compare with my previous ‘home team’ Nebraska - Omaha, which will face ‘25 tourney teams in Minnesota State, Massachusetts, champion Western Michigan, Cornell and Denver.

I don’t follow recruiting, but I look forward to seeing this coming season’s goalie rotation.

The schedule posted on the Colgate athletics web site is missing a few games. The Colgate men's ice hockey Instagram account also lists the following matchups:
  • Home vs. RIT on both Oct 31 and Nov 1
  • Away at Michigan State on Nov 26 and Nov 28
This is 2 years in a row that our OOC schedule is 4 home, 8 away. The OOC away games are all against teams we did not play in 2024-25, so fingers crossed that they all play at '65 in the future. Also, I hope that Penn State does eventually make a return trip to Hamilton. It would suck if we only played them at their barn.

Iowabasedtraveler, you must be thrilled that 50% of our OOC schedule is against "teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season", since that's been your benchmark of a quality opponent.

Rainman, thanks! I don't use Instagram, so the Michigan State series is a HUGE surprise. In fact, today, just seconds after seeing the website schedule, I RSVP'ed to a wedding invitation from friends in Pittsburgh, Penna., for Saturday, November 29 (since Colgate wasn't playing that weekend). Now I guess that I will drive out to East Lansing, Mich., for the Thanksgiving series and drive the six hours to Pittsburgh on that Saturday morning. he he he

And, yes, I am 'over the moon' at the overall quality of our non-conference (and in-conference) opponents for this coming season, especially Boston University, Maine, Michigan State, Cornell and Quinnipiac. My theory has always been, 'if we want to play better hockey, long-term, then we need to play better hockey teams, even if we lose in the short-term.' In eight years of watching Colgate closely, I believe that we tend to play up to the level of teams above us in the PairWise Ranking (and down to teams below us).

Thanks again for making my day!

Happy to see the series with MSU has finally been announced. I was told back in April about the UNH and Colgate series, but asked not to post. Welcome to East Lansing….I didn’t ask, but assume we’ll be heading your way in the future.
