No major swings this week, though Cornell is slowly falling in the PWR.

Colgate's next opponent... Cornell: home (February 4) and away (February 5).

Our only opponent this year that was in the 16-team 2021 NCAA tourney was Quinnipiac.
Our only opponents next year that are in the 16-team 2022 NCAA tourney might be Western Michigan (away 2x) and Quinnipiac (home, away).

Good update IBT...rather sad to see the continuing decline of ECAC hockey...AGAIN, it's four decent to good teams and then (really) no difference between teams 5 through 12, ALL OF WHICH are in the lower third of the PairWise (including #55, #56, #57)...we're starting to look like the Patriot League in football...

Tonight’s Cornell at Colgate ECAC Hockey game is still on for 7:30 p.m. at the Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, N.Y., according to Colgate’s MIH Twitter account.

Mitch Benson led the team out onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warm-up. Andrew Farrier and Will Friend backing him up.

Cornell pep band and Colgate pep band both in the house.

Alex Young scores for ‘Gate late in the period.

Colgate 9, Cornell 6, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, Cornell 0, score after one.

Not many shots by either team. Defensive lapses by both teams. Goaltending looks solid by both teams.

8 seconds into the second period, Cornell tied it up.

PPG for ‘Gate by Griffin Lunn.

Colgate 16, Cornell 15, SOG after two.
Colgate 2, Cornell 1, score after two.

Less than a minute into the period, Cornell scored.

Colgate with PPG by Manderville.

Cornell 29, Colgate 24, SOG final.
Colgate 3, Cornell 2, score final.

Well, I obviously didn’t see that one coming, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. After me ragging on the defense most of this season, this was their night… low number of SOG by each team, low number of goals by each team. Mitch Benson stood on his head at times and was luckier-than-heck at times (ping off the pipes, puck sitting in front of empty net). It also got physical and chippy at times, and can’t help but think that tomorrow night at Lynah will be worse. But, we know we can beat ‘em now. Go ‘Gate (and Gate83)!!

Never thought I’d see empty seats for this game in my lifetime. Starr would have been packed to the rafters. No brazen students with Big Red gum? Thunder sticks? White towels? Has the entire student body gone woke? Has the athletic dept forgotten how to promote games for spectators or is this all COVID’s fault? The weather? Where was the message that concessions are now open? I had to read about it in a Nicki Moore tweet an hour before the game.

Guess the stars were aligned just right. Their goalie seemed to have an off-night and our special teams saved the day. Benson gave up his typical few goals which is usually enough to sink us.

The chemistry is always different for this series, you can feel it, but it never translates to consistency for the rest of our season. This game we held our own and it didn’t look impossible to do. Cornell is always big. Always aggressive. Always has their annoying travel base/band. Always nationally ranked. Yet for some reason, this time, unlike most others, we topped them. Looking at our record now and being only 4 games or so below .500 is typical but the W could be a motivation to step it up and a validation of hard work. We’ll see what tonight brings, but a split on the road is more than I thought we’d ever get though hoping for more.

Can’t convince me that this win will resurrect my lost faith in DV!

A well played and physical hockey game...passing, especially out of our own end was much improved, especially compared to the Dartmouth game...we got to stop giving up goals at the beginning of ANY period, but great to get a close win...thought Ryan McGuire played a very solid game and great to see the PP succeed...I echo Tchr Bill's comments (above) and really do wonder if our current AD will improve her game...good for the kids...continue to accrue points and try to finish 5th or 6th...it's doable...

Thought the same about McGuire, best game he's played this year ! Cornell's going to be very ornery tonight.

It was great that Manderville scored the winning goal, why didn't Cornell recruit him ? I've always wondered, you would think out of respect for his All American father at Cornell they'd at least give him a shot ? Plus he fits the mold at six feet four.
