Colgate 2019-20

Patriot League announced no out of conference games for basketball and Colgate has informed hockey players that while they are not in the Patriot League, they generally follow those decisions. But they are going to talk to the ECAC. However, since ECAC is just a one sport league, the multisport conference Patriot League carries more weight. So unlikely that there are any OOC games before league play.

Edit: Later word that the AD told coaches to schedule OOC games. Not a guarantee they will happen. If so, players have to stay over both holiday breaks. Not fun for them since there is nothing to do in Hammy while on lockdown.

As a follow-up Sacred Heart (Atlantic Hockey)just released their schedule with games against Quinnipiac 11/24 and Union 12/30. Of course there is no guarantee these will be played but it appears ECAC teams are scheduling OOC games

Saturday Sept 3, 2022 time TBA If you don't believe me google "Stanford football future schedules". Also at Army and Furman at home ! Yikes !

Well, shabby 'ya got me! As you say, is our recruiting going full throttle right now so we can at least give the Cardinal some reasonable competition?

IBT - sorry about all the football, but while hockey is on hiatus football is our Plan B sport to talk about.

LOL not trying to "get" you, guess I'm getting old and cranky, covid life change etc. Gotta tell you, this is the first year in some 65 years I haven't got to see my football team play, and I don't like it.
On the lighter side, "If" we see hockey in January or whenever, we won't have to worry about social distancing at the games with about 500 people at the games. We'll already be social distancing. My attempt at humor. Hope you're doing well in these times.

You aren't getting cranky. You just posted "Stanford" on our 2022 FB schedule and I almost died. You are allowed to be cranky during these epidemic times. Aren't we all? I hope we'll have more than 500 fans at the hockey games, if played in January. I'd give up social distancing in order to have more fannies in the seats...ha-ha. BTW, I think I heard that the Comets would have their first game at the Aud around February 6th....could that be true?

Think the earliest date for the AHL is Feb 4, so hopefully, with the spike in covid, who knows ?

There is a possibility the Comets won't be in Utica. One of the dozens of issues being discussed by the NHL for the upcoming season is the formation of an All-Canadian division due to the current border restrictions. One of the fallouts from this would be the relocation of the 3 AHL teams with Canadian affiliates to Canadian locations as player movement between the NHL and AHL would be next to impossible under the current conditions. Not saying this is going to happen but it has been discussed.

It would be "nice" if members of the Colgate hockey community received SOME sort of update re: the situation this year for ECAC Hockey...gee, perhaps we Silver Puck Council members could get some news, however general or specific. Perhaps we're simply waiting for the Ivy League to tell us what the league is going to do this year. Maybe not. But, once again, communication of any kind from the program is, for all purposes, non-existent...nothing new here...it does try one's patience and a rational man might conjecture that in light of the program's mediocre performance over the past 14 years we DESERVE better than we're getting from the top down...rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse

The Women's team has games scheduled in November and early December. One would expect that the Men would do the same.

You're not alone. We, too, are not getting much communication and I really think it has to do with the uncertainty of the COVID situation. Local and state restrictions are so fluid that nobody knows what's going on. The state this week has started to clamp down on sports and it appears that winter sports in general are in the crosshairs.

As for the ECAC, a lot depends on the Ivy's as they comprise half of the league. Any decision made today can be meaningless if the situation changes tomorrow. And there hasn't been any communication from the league either. In my opinion, the Ivy League will not play any sports this season at all, and that creates a huge hurdle for the ECAC to get around.

For us, there has been talk of some upcoming non-conference games but that info has all come second-hand... nothing official from the school at all. Add to that that the campus is seeing an upswing in COVID cases and things get fuzzy in a hurry. The only thing we know for certain at this point is that there will be no fans at any games this season, and season tickets have been refunded.

Have a ECAC New York, plus Q-Pac if they want to travel. Seven teams, limited travel and overnights. This was already mentioned earlier in this thread. The Ivies are most of the travel and overnights.

I don't think that anyone is withholding information from us. The coaches don't know anything for certain. The players don't know anything more than we do. I'm pretty sure that your Silver Puck status isn't holding things up

I hear you woodenskates, but, again, even an update that nothing has been settled would be a help...I just received a note from Coach Hunt, updating things while also asking for additional Maroon Council funds...essentially communication from the program over many years has been virtually non-existent and this is just another example...I read updates from SLU and Cornell...

Finally, a morsel today...
Dear Alumni, Families, and Friends of Colgate Athletics,

With a fall unlike any other we’ve experienced, our student-athletes and coaches have persisted with training and preparation, choosing to believe that the day will come when their work will be put to the test in competition. Today, we took another step toward making that day become a reality as the Patriot League Council of Presidents endorsed a plan for a Patriot League men’s and women’s basketball schedule for the 2020–21 season, beginning on Saturday, Jan. 2.

The commencement of competition will be contingent on the league and its member institutions being able to do so in ways that protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, staff members, and the community. The Council of Presidents believes this model offers the best opportunity for a successful league season, places the highest value on the safety and wellbeing of its players, and reaffirms the importance of competing within the league for a championship.

Consistent with this prioritization of health and safety, the 2020–21 basketball schedule (Men | Women) format features a significant reduction in travel and overnight stays. No teams will be permitted to fly to games during the regular season. All safety measures will be monitored throughout the season. At this time, all competition will take place without spectators due to state limitations on venue capacities.

This season all Patriot League live streaming moves to ESPN+ as part of a leaguewide agreement. All home Colgate events across sports, along with conference games on the road, will be available on the platform. Additionally, select Patriot League basketball games will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

The league also announced rescheduling of the 2021 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships and continued planning work with respect to the Track and Field Championships. Specific information on the schedules for these two Patriot League sponsored winter sports, as well as the Colgate men’s and women’s hockey schedules, will be announced soon.

Further, the Council of Presidents also called for continued planning for the conduct of fall sports during the spring semester, as well as traditional spring sports.

Again, more specific information about these schedules, the precautions we will take, and ongoing planning will be announced as plans are developed and approved.

So many people have been thoughtfully engaged in the process of making this step a reality, on our campus and around the Patriot League. Members of the Task Force on Reopening and the Emergency Operations Center have been tireless in their review and feedback, and will be a part of ensuring athletic competitions abide by Colgate’s reopening plans, with a central interest in the health and safety of our community.

Thank you for all of the ways you support our Raider student-athletes. With your support and encouragement, we will continue to compete for championships in every field and every arena, even in these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Nicki Moore
Vice President and Director of Athletics

Since I have been (and am) willing to travel for college hockey, I have reached out to both the Big Ten conference and Army West Point, asking if general-admission spectators are being allowed at this weekend's games. Both responded quickly, with Big Ten saying 'just families of student-athletes' and Army West Point saying 'not at the present time.' I appreciate the honest and open communication.

Well they announced the Captain (McAvoy) and the As (Cosgrove, Jeanson and McKechney) so it’s starting to sound like we will have some sort of a season. I suspect the ECAC is just waiting to hear if all of the Ivys are out or only some.
