Colgate 2017-18

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Nice to start league play with a 3-point weekend! Even better, a 3-point weekend on the road, on a road trip that historically hasn't been good for us. Things are certainly looking up right now!

Re: Colgate 2017-18

This is the first time since the Feb '14 that Quinnipiac has lost back to back ECAC home games. Cornell & Colgate did it back then and now.

Colgate earned that win last night and will be better than I thought because of Point and the defense.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

What a stunner on the road! A ppg and a win over a RANKED TEAM. Vaughan has heard an earful waiting for that to happen, which feels like a decade. Point is a barricade in front of the cage, and after being snakebitten countless times over the years, the Raiders actually capitalized on 2 breakaways. Perhaps 'Gate will be better and Q will be worse than many predicted. Congrats to the #5 WIH team for the weekend sweep; long time coming over those two opponents for the Raiders.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

I am looking for an away-game travel partner.
I went to the New Hampshire series with a friend from Syracuse and we had a great time. This past weekend, I wound up going to Clarkson on Friday and Saint Lawrence on Saturday. I traveled solo, but met a friend from Ogdensburg who went to both games with me.
Fans were great in New Hampshire and in the North Country. And I learned that New Hampshire and Clarkson are the real deal, while St. Lawrence and RPI are going to have steep learning curves in 2017.
I am interested in traveling to any and all Colgate away games, but would prefer some company and split travel expenses.
E-mail me at iowabasedtraveler at yahoo dot com, if potentially interested.
I recently moved back to upstate New York (Owego) and bought a Colgate season ticket, after doing the same in Omaha the past many years.
Thanks!

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Been out of town for 5 days. Can't believe what happened over the weekend. Great win over QU! Atta way to go Gate!

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Congrats on a great win and a great start !!! Q plays their best hockey at home. No small feat especially against their touted defence. Must feel good. You were picked by some for a last place finish. We were picked by CHN for 10th. We will see.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Only saw the score, couldn't believe it

Great start to the ECAC campaign, and a strong start overall. Lots of confidence with Harvard coming to town next...

Re: Colgate 2017-18

So as good as Point has been is anyone worried that he will be picked to go to the World Juniors? Looking at the schedule it would only affect one weekend of games coming out of the break. The WJ go from Dec 26 to Jan 5th for the gold medal game, we have a game on the 5th and 6th (Quinnipiac and Princeton), it would be an interesting issue but I guess a good one to have

Maybe Harvard comes out flat, looking ahead to Cornell. How far can Point take us, scoring by committee, McMann has a breakout game, he's overdue !
Quillan finally playing, supposed to be a very offensive minded dman. Harvard is loaded, Donato(Bruins) has to be held in check. Go Raiders !

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Harvard will require some heavy lifting, but the Ivy Lg is just starting out and is behind us in game experience so far. Thus maybe we have an advantage. Dartmouth likewise. We got 45 pts in the USCHO rankings and are just outside the top 16 in the PWR...I think #18 or #19...so lots of movement upwards for this team. Let's keep it rolling 'Gate.

WIH is amazing. #2 in PWR and ranked #5 (I think)? Wow, what a team! Keep it going!

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Pairwise Ranking at this time of year isn't a good measurement of where we stand, since the sample size is too small. But the outcomes of games at this time of year do have PWR implications come March. A win over Harvard would be HUGE for us! Maybe we catch them thinking about Cornell.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

I don’t really think we need Harvard to play poorly to get a W or tie. We are going to have a chance any time Point laces them up this year. That being said we cannot count on him to play like he has all year, he needs some help and I am encouraged that we have gotten production from all classes and positions. Makes it harder to focus on one person or line. I remember the Smith/Wagner/Wilson years back, if the opponent focused on that line and stopped them they stopped us (not a good thing for us).

Secondly, I am wondering how many on this forum really thought that ten games into the season we would be over 500, unbeaten at home, and have a 5 game unbeaten streak (anytime this year). It’s exciting and hopefully the team has given the freshman time to develop and produce. Exciting season so far hopefully it will keep up, but it will be interesting to see how this team handles adversity as so far they have seen none

With respect, I don't think you beat this Harvard line-up without some help from the Harvard team itself - which unfortunately has been a factor thus far. I do hope that any early wins over the Crimson carry big PWR weight later on, as that will mean Harvard after a shaky start will have played better and better as the season rolled along.
