Colgate 2017-18

Re: Colgate 2017-18

New Athletic Director (AD) to be announced this afternoon.

Golden 'Gates dinner and awards presentation was held tonight in Hamilton, N.Y., with men's hockey goaltender Colton Point of North Bay (Ontario, Canada) earning the (male) Athlete of the Year award and women's hockey forward Jessie Eldridge of Barrie (Ontario, Canada) earning the (female) Athlete of the Year award. Outgoing Athletic Director Vicky Chun (to Yale) gave the closing remarks, including a warm welcome to incoming AD Nicki Moore (from UNC Chapel Hill). President Brian Casey and Board of Trustees president David Hurwitz also spoke at the well-attended year-ending event.

Wonder how an AD from Chapel Hill will view our emphasis on the two hockey programs? Don’t know Nicki from Adam, but wish her lots of luck at Colgate and hope she is a big supporter of all our athletic teams.

Congrats to Jessie Eldridge and Colton Point on being elected Athletes of the Year. Well deserved by both individuals.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Based on some schedule musings, it's almost a certainly the home/home with Cornell will be 25-26 January. Unless someone knows if they might be splitting the series, like 16-17?

Re: Colgate 2017-18

assuming we play Cornell in January my New Year's wish for 2019 will be to actually get two points out of four...since we're 4-22-7 in our last 33 meetings with The Big Red this may be a stretch...

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Cornell has another good recruiting class, albeit smaller than usual in numbers, they will be as good as last year, on the other hand, oops never mind.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

We are playing a non league game against Quinnipiac at the Nassau Coliseum this year, wonder why not an OOC game.

Regarding why not OOC, probably because most are already filled up. Only teams where you could realistically do a "one night stand" is vs. HEA or some of the AHC teams. You already have the odd-out with RIT's homecoming (and that's going to be one night because of the nature of the event), and you're never going to get a western team to travel for only one game. So it makes sense, given you have the 2nd most NC games (only to Arizona State), that it might have to be filled that way. At least the situation isn't quite as dire as when the Governor's Cup was around, but I'd say it's better than 33 games that count.

It is a non-conference (non-league, OOC) game. It is the same as when Colgate and Quinnipiac played a non-conference game on Cape Cod. It is separate from the two ECAC games that will be played in Hamilton and Hamden respectively. I don't know the exact date yet, it may depend on the NHL schedule as the Islanders will be playing a number of games at Nassau Coliseum this coming season.

Wouldn't shock me if it was around Thanksgiving.

This is lame scheduling. Couldn't we try harder to find SOMEONE, ANY TEAM? Maybe a good NESCAC team even...?? Wiliiams, Amherst..?? I don't want to play QU three times...

NESCAC would be an exhibition match not counting towards the 34 for record, but counting towards it for games played. Better off Q.

It's not an OOC game but I think I understand what you mean, maybe grouping them together(non league and game that counts toward the thirty four maximum). How about Penn State or any Hockey East teams for OOC PWR implications ? They could play one game without much traveling and play the other team locally also.
Has anyone seen our OOC scheduling for this year, I haven't.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

New recruit Mike Citara our first "baby" recruit. Coming in 2021, sixteen year old from the Philadelphia Flyers U16 team. Small but fourty one goals in fourty six games. I like it, we need more recruiting like this, everyone else is doing it.

We had a 15-year old commit from that same Philadelphia Flyers U16 team. He didn't make it in. Many a slip when there's four years tween the cup and the lip.

Colgate hosts Ohio State 11/9 - 11/10, 2018 per Ohio State schedule release today. The Buckeyes went to the Frozen Four in April. Known schedule now includes two home NC games each against Ohio State & Lowell. Also there's a trip to Miami (Ohio) for two games in late October.

Re: Colgate 2017-18

always a pleasure to have 'Gate Radio provide an update for the thread...I've been somewhat disappointed with the quality of our O-O-C match-ups, but 2 games against Ohio State and 2 against Miami (Ohio) is a good start for next year...

Re: Colgate 2017-18

Wow, Ohio State and UMass Lowell at home, football returning 18 of 22 starters, shaping up for a great fall !
