Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

I forgot to mention in the third period after a scrum in front of Finn, a Dartmouth player had his glove off and threw a punch grazing a Gate players chin. It was a total roundhouse punch in front of everyone fifteen seconds after the whistle. He didn't even get a minor penalty, Dan Fridgen the announcer said a punch thrown constitutes a fighting major in ECAC hockey or NCAA hockey, he couldn't believe a penalty wasn't called. I think they even showed a replay of it.

Did he actually throw it off, or did it seem to come off inadvertently? I've seen a non-glove punch not called as fighting a few times, although one was a face wash that resulted in a game misconduct...

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Caught both games this weekend in the new (impressive) rink. Quick summary is we were evenly matched against Dartmouth, overmatched against Harvard. The Crimson looked good in every facet: puck control, passing, D, etc. We still looked outmatched during Harvard's five-minute major at the end of the second/start of the third. Give Colgate credit for never giving up, though. Scored one late to make it respectable.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

We had a bad 1st period last night that ultimately did us in against Harvard. But they're a very good team, and if there's anything positive that can be taken from last night's game, it's that the team never quit, and Colton Point played a good 40 minutes stopping every shot he faced. This should bode well for us next season.

Meanwhile, we fell back into 9th place with Dartmouth beating Cornell, and RPI, our next opponent, pulled off a road win in Potsdam. They won't be easy. We've played some tough competition the entire season, and will need to bring our "A" game every remaining contest if we want to finish at least 8th (which is very realistic).

With all due respect sshablak, the Dartmouth player's glove NEVER came off during the so called punch. So let's reset the situation, the Dartmouth tries a wrapped around which Finn saved so the same Dartmouth player tries a pitchfork; that is when he got jumped by two Colgate players (rightfully so). The one Colgate that he punched had him by the horse-collar pulling him off and that is when the Dartmouth got up blindly and attempted to throw a punch. The score was 2-1 late in the game. Given all this, the possible call could have been Dartmouth double-minor and Colgate minor or just a minor for Dartmouth.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Caught this weekend's games, and the 3rd period of Clarkson last week. This is an improved team from earlier in the year, and has some real good fight. Getting the first playoff series at Class of '65 is very doable, especially if they keep playing this way. Capital District plus Cornell over the next weekend will be tough, but getting Brown/Yale at home the following weekend will be a more crucial time to pick up points.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

These next 3 games are VERY critical for us! We will "make up" the games in hand that we have on Clarkson and Dartmouth, and have the potential to pass both of them in the standings. With 3 road games in 5 days, this will be a tall order.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Colgate is featured in 3 of the 5 NCAA plays of the week, with Charlie at the #1 spot. Go 'Gate!!!

Gocolgateraiders.com Tell me you never have been there ?

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Steve.......I found it on the Colgate Men's Hockey Twitter site........through the Colgate Athletics website. Hope you are well.....haven't seen you at many games.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

We need these two points tonight if we're going to get home ice.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

pathetic, really pathetic...and who the hell will waste the time watching the Union game, especially if the Dutchmen lose to Cornell?...we continue to average less than 2 goals per game in the ECAC...Kulevich is a rock and McMann is quite talented...thanks to RPI for a good quality presentation visually, although both announcers are awful, especially the so-called "color guy"...I hope for his sake he's not planning a career in broadcasting...we're not only bad, we're boring as well...

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Great visual broadcast from RPI TV, terrible announcers though ... and an ugly result from the guys in maroon. We gave up two confidence-breaking goals, both in the 2nd period. RPI's 2nd goal occurred when we were 2 seconds away from killing a penalty, then their 3rd goal was a "soft" wraparound that was with about 90 seconds before the end of the period.

Finishing 8th or better looks a lot tougher now.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Rainman's correct...several of RPI's goals were simply inexcusable and our defensive lapses were killers...I guess we finish off this year by losing in the first round of the playoffs, regroup and pray that the young men coming in next year can add some speed and skill to a team that needs both...we do miss Dauda; he's one of the few that seems to have the ability of establish a presence in front of the net...and, as I have said, by next December or so we'll get a pretty good read on whether this program is, in fact, turning upwards...if not, then...

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

Those RPI announcers always give me a chuckle, the way they do our games. I hope they are not beaming it to radio at the same time...clueless doesn't adequately describe it. However I enjoy just watching without so much color commentary (Doc Emerick drives me nuts on the NHL broadcasts)

So...I believe we gave up a lead again, am I right? I think we were ahead 2-1 and lost it (I could be wrong). If so this is another instance of our not being able to protect a lead. Perhaps I'm mistaken and we tied it 2-2. Anywho...facing a Union team that's ranked #3 or #4 is not going to be a cakewalk, especially after this loss. Is there any hope for a first round win in the playoffs? Haven't checked Heisenberg lately but hope there are some studs coming in next year.

Tied it 2-2. And they were beaming it to radio simultaneously, although I guess it's been a number of years since the primary commentator has sat in front of that microphone; he's usually on the other one.

If it's any consolation, Cornell did beat Union, so they may not be as infallible as you may think, but they're probably going to be as peeved as your group.

Re: Colgate 2016-17 A New Beginning

ColSkate65...two incoming defensemen should help: Trevor Cosgrove (Alberni Valley of BCHL out of Phillips Exeter) is averaging a point/game and leading his team in scoring, and, similarly, Nick Quillan (Whitecourt of AJHL via The Gunnery) is also a point a game producer...forwards??? hard to say, although it doesn't appear there are any McManns joining us next year...looks like a OK group on paper but you never really know...let's make it competitive tonight boys!!!
