Re: Colgate 2013-14

We are now in third place and have entered the PWR as the sixteenth team in the NCAA's if the season ended today.

That would mean you'd be the first out, because of the autobid for each league (all are eligible for it). Still time left in the season, though.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Always nice to get a win against the Saints, but something is God-awful wrong in Canton this year. Kinda reminds me of our 2010-11 season where everything was going wrong for us from November through January.

The video feed from the Patriot League Network was choppy, again. I think this is an issue on Colgate's end because I tested other live streams during the intermissions and didn't notice anything wrong with them. Hopefully this gets fixed in time for the next home game, which will be against Cornell.

Ya think???? We started 6-2-2 with wins over two top 10 teams one on the road (Ferris State.) We could easily have won both those games. Win over Northeastern, a win on the road after that against North Dakota and we almost swept them at home.....then disaster. Our PP is #1 in the country....but we are last in the country in penalty kill. And yet we march to the penalty box frequently game after game. (I have to say listening on the radio the penalty calls seemed a little uneven but in the end there were 6 against each team.) We let teams score at will and walk in for quality chances very easily. Hard to be positive at this point....things just keep getting worse and worse. Our goal tending is awful at this point. On the other hand you folks are headed in the other direction. Good luck the rest of the way.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Way to go 'gate, very proud. They are clawing their way to the top.

IDK Rainman...thought SLU played a good game. Scored 3pp goals which would usually win you a game. They gave up an ENG...I think the game was closer than the score indicated. Their goalie made some acrobatic saves.

We had some more missed, golden opportunities...the breakaway by Freeman (I think) is as laughable as it is sad; the endless penalties - especially those taken while on the pp - just hard to justify when you know how good SLU is with the extra man. Would also be nice to keep a 2 goal lead.

Some great offensive zone pressure that was fun to watch...even on the sub par video ;-)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Must be something wrong with my phone 'cause I can't see any other posts about tonight's SLU win, and there's no way I'm the first one. Anyway, congratulations to Colgate and to Baun on the hat trick!!

I'm not saying SLU is a bad team, nor did they play a bad game. I just never expected them to be in a slide like this given the talent they have on their team. While the boxscore says they went 2 for 6 on the power play, one of those power play opportunities was only 3 seconds long, so they were effectively 2 for 5. They overcame a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2 early on, and in the 3rd period they got back into the game when we got into some more penalty trouble. Even though the final score indicated a blowout, the Saints never packed it in last night. I for one would not want to play them in March.

In other news, we're now 15th in the PWR, making us the last team into the NCAA's if they started today, barring any "upset" conference tournament winners.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Tied with QU for 2nd in the league. Who'd a thought we'd get there at this point in the season...(I know Shabby did :)

A few minor mistakes last night but over all a great game. Can't understand why SLU has hit the skids, although I know their PK isn't the best. But with the Carey Bros and their PP I expected more trouble.

Rainman: I agree with you. The video on the PLN was not good; keeps jumping around, repeating, and very choppy. Hope they can do something about this before long.

Big games vs Brown & Yale coming up. Hope we can keep the momentum going. The improvement of this team since the beginning of the season is immense. All those OOC games really helped IMHO. Kudos to the kids and the coaching staff.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

No doubt about it 'gate has been on a terror lately. Probably the most dangerous team in the league right now and from a comptetitor's standpoint the team you just don't want to play. Only negative from last night was Union's loss was a nonconf game to RPI. Great to see gate in the tourney as of now. Hopefully they can keep this up and roll into lake placid as well as they are playing now. PP has been great compared to back in December. They are passing the puck well and moving creating great goal opportunities.

Goulakis is the key to make our PP go. He is close to %100 now, the PP is good again. We're obviously clicking on all cylinders right now, PP, goaltending, defensemen, fourth line, and especially such a young team of frosh and sophs coming into their own. The future looks so good, and a new rink to bring in more talent. I'm flying very high right now,it's great.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Can anyone remember the last time we were "in tournament position" this late into the season. I am thinking it might have been the 2005 season when we made it into the tournament as an at-large.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Last year I think we were 17th in the PWR entering the first week of February, after our two North Country ties. Of course, we all know what happened after that.

Without researching it, I think you're right. With all the splits last weekend I bet we're ranked this week.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Check out the Union-RPI brawl if you haven't seen it, posted on several threads. At least our games don't end like that. I have to question why Bennett only got a 2-game suspension after what I saw. More like 3-4 would have been appropriate IMHO. But this is a topic for another thread...sorry. I just can't help myself :(

Actually, there is a discussion about Colgate hockey that can be wrought from it. The incident made the Post-Standard here, but I don't think I've ever seen a story in there about Colgate, or even your travel partners. What gives? Is it because the Observer-Dispatch is your main coverage?

OK...I'll bite, what story ?

Colgate "technically" falls into the Syracuse DMA (designated market area), but I've seen media outlets (TV and newspaper) from both Syracuse and Utica cover Colgate Athletics.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

They will do stories but only for the ecac final
Four or better. Other than that it is hard to come by in the paper
